GEORGE c. MUnrnY; or Lo IsvIL E,
ADVERTISING-POSTER.
To v a'llwhom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE C. MURPHY, citizen of the United States of America, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising-Posters, of which the following is a specification, reference beinghad therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to an advertising poster and has for its principal object the production of means for drawing attention to advertising matter. Another object of this invention is the production of a signpivotally mounted upon a post which is adapted to turn with the wind.
Another object of this invention is the production of a cylinder adapted to be easily rotated upon a rod, said rodbeing provided with a bearing point.
.With these and otherobjects in view, this invention consists of certain novel combi' nations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed. 7
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 sa side elevation of the device.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device showing the same partly in section.
is a vertical section through the sign left off. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the topof the cylinder showing how the vane is attached thereto, the vane being broken away.
Fig. 5 is a section taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1 looking in t'he direction of the arrows.
Fig. 6
de ice with the advertising is a section taken on line 6-6 of Fig. 3 looking in the directionof the arrows.
Fig. 7 is a section taken on the line 77 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. 8 is a section taken on the line 88 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 9 is a section of Fig. 2.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals, it will be seen that 1 designates a post which is provided with the vertically extending bore 2 adapted to receive the rod 3. This rod 3 is held in place by means of the collar 4 which is attached to the post 1 by means of the screw 5 as shown clearly in Fig. 3.
The rod 3 is adapted to extend into the taken on the line 99 Specification of Letters Patent.

cylinder, 6so that the pointed end 7 ofthe rod 3 will engage the cap 8. The cap 8 is threaded upon the cylinder 6 and is provided with the spherical shaped knob 9Ja-nd the body portion '10. The pointed end 7 of the rod 3 is adapted to bear upon the center of the inner face of the body portion 10 of the cap 8. .The cap 11 is threadedly mounted upon the lower end of the cylinder 6 and is rovided with a central opening 12 so as to allow the rods 3 to pass therethrough.
Near the upper e d of the rod 3 is provided the collar 13 which is fixedly attached to the rod. 3 andwill prevent the cylinder from wabbling upon the shaft 3. Upon the upper end of the cylinder 6 vane 14. This vane 1 4 is bent so as to provide the sleeve portion 15 whichis fixedly attached to the body portion of the vane, by means of rivets 16. Rivets 17 are also pro;
is provided the vided to fixedly attach the vane to the cylinder 6 as is clearly shown'in Fig. 3'. Near the lower end of the cylinder 6 is provided the frame 18 which frame 18 consists of. the side members 19 which will be .held in place. by means of the V-shaped brackets 20. These brackets 20 are formed from single strips of metal andibent so aste provide the fiattened portion 21 andthe twolegs 22. At the end of the legs 22 there is provided the internal feet 23 which are held in engagement with the side portions 19. by means of the rivets 24. The body portions 21" are mounted upon the blocks 25 by means of the bolts 2 6 whichbolts 26 are held in position by nuts 27. The blocks 25 when placed together are dished out so as to provide the cylindrical bore'28 so as to pass around and the cylinder .6 as is clearly shown in Fig. 9. i
The vane 14 which is mounted upon the upper end of the cylinder 6, is braced by means of the sheet metal strip 29 by means of a plurality of rivets 30. Upon this vane 14 there is usually painted some word which will draw the attention of pedestrians and others. The frame 18 which is provided with side portions 19 is for the purpose of advertising and the like. Along the face of the side portions 19 there may be painted advertising matter. It will be seen by having the vane 14 fixedly attached to the cylinder 6 and the frame 18 fixedlyattached to the cylinder 6, that when the wind blows it will have the usual effect upon the vane 14, that is turn the same from the direction in 'vided with threaded which the wind is coming, which vane will turn the cylinder 6 and the frame 18 which will naturally draw advertising matter carrled upon the frame 18, to the attention of those occupying the space thereabout.
What is claimed is: r 7
ll In adevice of the class described, the combination of a post, said post provided with a longitudinal bore extending at a spaced distance from its top, a rod being fitted in said bore, the top end of said rod being pointed, a cylinder passing around said rod, said cylinder provided with threaded ends, a pivot cap threaded upon theupper end of said cylinder so as to come into engagement with the pointed end of said rod, a cap provided with central opening threaded upon the lower end of said cylinder and means provided upon said rod to prevent said cylinder from wabbling, a vane fixedly attached near the top of said cylinder and means for displaying advertising matter mounted upon said cylinder.
2.
