PRINTING-FRAME.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 14, 1917.
Application filed September 19, 1916. Serial No. 121,081.
To. all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, CHARLES DE MARCO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have inventedv certain new and useful Improvements in Printing- Frames, of which the following is a specification.
The object of'this invention is to provide a new and improved form of printing frame.
Another object of the invention is to provide means where the film or plate and the sensitized paper can be brought together scribed in the specification and pointed out in the Claims at the end thereof.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan Viewof the back of the printing frame.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the left hand side of the printing frame shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the printing frame on the line 3"3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4. isa transverse section on the line &*-4* of Fig. 1.

In the drawings like reference numerals I indicate like parts.
In the drawlngs reference numeral 1 indicates the printing frame having compartments 2 and 3 located at the opposite ends thereof. Located in these compartments are the rollers 1 and 5 which are used for carrying the photographic film from which the printing is to be done and the rollers 6 and 7 which carry the vignette strip. Each of The vignette strip 15 travels across the opening immediately in contact with the glass plate. The photographic film 16 travels across the glass plate immediately behind the Vignette strip.
Keyed to the rollers 4 and 6 on one side of the printing frame are the knurled wheels 17 and 18 and keyed to the rollers 5 and 7 on the other side of the frame are the knurled wheels 19 and 20. Each of these rollers is made similar to the ones shown in Fig. 5. Each roller has a slot 21 therein running substantially the length thereof and has a reduced end 22 which extends through the casing to which the knurled wheel is attached. Surrounding this reduced end'is a helical spring 23 which bears against the inside of the bearing plate '24: and serves to hold the rollers correctly in line and gives it a frictional contact with the casing by which accidental rotation of it is prevented.
The back of the printing frame is closed by combination door which comprises a central j amb 25 to which are hinged on the opposite sides thereof the doors 26 and 27 On this amb between the hinges is carried a block 28 on which is mounted a plate 29, the, ends of which project slightly beyond the.
edges of the block. This block is grooved as indicated at 30 in which groove is nested the spring 31. Mounted to turn on this spring is the button 32 which engages in recesses 33 and 34 on opposite sides of the frame. The upper edge of each of these recesses is finished by a metal plate, which plates are notched with square shoulders as indicated at 50, the shoulders on the edges of which notches engage on either side of the ends of the button and serve to positively hold the button in place. See dotted lines in Fig. 2.
The spring 31 and button 32 are provided centrally and engage with a screw or pivot pin 35 on which the button can swing freely. This button is calibrated for linear measurement as indicated in Fig. 1 so that the posi tioning of the card and the vignette with regard to each other can be more readily determined by reference thereto.
Pivotally mounted on each of the doors 26 and 27 are the springs 36 and 37, these springs being pivoted on screws 38 and 39. Each of these springs is bowed in the middle and has a rounded end which engages the outwardly projecting ends of the plate 29. The ends of the spring can be sprung up or down past the end of the plate 29 and after Ibo - frame.

It will be understood that films of small size will be used on the rollers 40 and 41 and films of larger or standard sizes will be used on the rollers 4: and 5, although a small film may also be placed on the rollers 4 and 5 and shifted along the rollers to print the picture on the side or middle of the card as maybe desired.
In operation the metal doors 8 and?) and the proper vignette and film strips are placed on the rollers and stretched between them. The doors are then closed and'the post card or other suitable print is put in position as indicated at 46 in Fig. 3. The back door 25, 26 and 27 is then put in place.

If printing from the film carried by the rollers .40 and 41- the adjustment may be made therewith by means of the knurled buttons 44 and 45 and the vignette may be adjusted with reference to that film after which the exposure can also be made.

either of the doors may be opened by bend-' ing the springs 36 or 87 and moving it as above described.
I claim:
1. A printing frame having acompartment at the back thereof, said compartment being divided intosmaller compartments one on each end thereof w th a central compartment extending between the end compartments, a closure for said central compart ment, an angular partition hinged at each end of the frame and covering the back and inner end of each end compartment, said 'closure loosely abutting against the inner ends of said partitions.
2. A printing frame having a compartment at the back thereof, said compartment being divided into smaller compartments one on each end thereof with a central compartment extending between the end compartments, a closure for said central compartment, "an angular partition hinged at each end of the frame and covering the back and inner end of each end compartment, said closure loosely abutting against the inner ends of said partitions, said closure comprising a central jamb with a door hinged on eachside thereof.
3. A printing frame having a compartment at the back thereof, said compartment being divided into smaller compartments one i on each end thereof with a central compartment extending between the end compartments, a closure for said central compartment, an angular partition hinged at each end of the frame and covering the back and inner end of each end compartment, said closure loosely abutting against the inner ends of said partitions, said closure comprising a central jamb with a door hinged on each. side thereof, a button pivotally 'mounted on said jamb and engaging the frame to hold said. closure in position.
4. A printing frame having a compartment at the back thereof, said compartment being divided into smaller compartments one on each end thereof with a central compartment extending between theend compartments, a closure for said central compartment, an angular partition hinged at each end of the frame and covering the back and inner end of each end compartment, said closure loosely abutting against the inner ends of said partitions, said closure comprising a central jamb with a door hinged on each side thereof, a button pivotally mounted on said jamb and engaging the frame to hold said closure in position, a spring connected to each of said hinged doors and engaging said jamb to hold the hinged doors in extended position.
5..A printing frame having a compartment at the back thereof, said compartment being divided into smaller compartments one on each end thereof with. a central compartment extending between the end compartments, a closure forsaid central compartment, an angular partition. hinged at each end of the frame and covering the back and inner end of each end compartment, said closure loosely abutting against the inner ends of said partitions, two spools mounted to rotate in each end compartment,- each spool in each compartment constituting a pair with a corresponding spool in the other compartment, the spools of one pair being v travel between them and the'spools' of the other pair being capable of receiving a film mounted to travel between them.
6. A printing frame having a compartment at'the back thereof, said compartment being divided into smaller compartments one on each end thereof with a central compart- -ment extending between the end compartments, a closure for said central compartment, an angular partition hinged at each end of the frame andcovering the back and inner end of each end compartment, said closure loosely abutting against the inner ends of said partitions, two spools mounted to rotate in each end compartment, each spool in each compartmentconstituting a pair with a corresponding spool in the other compartment,
the spools ofone pair-being capable of receiving a vignette mounted to travel between them and the spools of the other pair being capable of receiving a film mounted to travel between them, a spool mounted on each side of the frame, said spools being arranged in pairs, said spools being capable of receiving a film or vignette mounted to travel between them, the film or vignettemounted on said last named spools being adapted to travel transversely to the film and vignette moun'ted to travel on said first named spools.

A printing frame having a compartment at the back thereof, said compartment being divided into smaller compartments one at each end thereof, an angular partition hinged at each end of the frame for closing said compartments, a printing compartment located centrally of said frame between said angular partitions, a spring pressed closure for closing the back of said printing compartment, a hinged door for closing the front of said printing compartment.

A printing frame having a compartment at the back thereof, said compartment being divided into smaller compartments one on each end thereof with a central compartmentextending between the end compartnents, a closure for said central compartment, an angular partition hinged at each end of the frame and covering the back and inner end of each end compartment, said closure loosely abutting against the inner ends of said partitions spools mounted to turn in each of said end compartments, said spools comprising a slotted stem having a shoulder and a reduced end on one side thereof, a bearing plate adapted to receive said reduced end, a knurled handle fastened to the end of said reduced end, a coil spring interposed between said bearing plate and said shoulder on said stem to hold said knurled handle in frictional contact with said bearing plate.
