MOLD FOR FORMING PASTES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 14, 19??.
Application led August 19, 1911, Serial No. 645,025. Renewed January 6, 19l7. Serial No. 141,058.
To all whom t may concern."
Be it known that I, KARL GAMMEL, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new andd useful. Improvements in Molds for Forming Pastes, of which the following is a specification. l l Y This invention relatesparticularly toimprovements in the mold or die forming part of a press, and the primary object of the dough or paste, such as macaronic` paste, maybe heated sufficiently to cause same to pass readily through l the openings which may be provided in the mold or die.
Ll further object of the invention isfto provide means whereby the moldior diemay be heated uniformly so that all portions of the mold or die will be at approximately the same temperature.
A further object of the invention-.is to provide means for supplying the heating fluid to the mold or die in such a way that it can be readily removed from the press for the purpose of cleaning the same when desired.
The various otherobje'cts of the invention will be more fully 4set forth in the following description of several forms of construction embodying my invention as set-,forth and claimed in the following speciiication.
Referring to the drawings forming a part of this application,-
Figure l represents a plan view partly in section of a mold embodying my improvements. Y
Fig. 2 represents a partial cross-section on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view showing the construction of the inlet and outlet nozzles on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of a modified form of the mold or die.
Fig. 5 is a side elevation partly in section of the mold or die shown in Fig. 4.
The mold or die is preferably formed of a plate l and a suitable ring 2. The periphery of the plate is channeled as at 3 so as to provide a passage for the heating fluid such as water or steam. Said annular channel communicates with an inlet 4 and an outlet 5 permitting circulation of the iiuid.
The plate is provided with a plurality of openings therethrough for the passage of the paste, which are arranged in groups so as to leave parallel spaces between the groups. A centralspace 6 is provided with a passage 7 extending diametrically through the plate near the center thereof and smaller passages 9 are arranged at right angles to the central passage and are forn'i'ed in the spaces between the adjacent groups of openings communicating with said central passage 6. and with the annular passage 3.
` Preferably two passages are provided in the smaller or transverse spaces, one being arranged near the topV of the plate and the other being arranged near the bottom thereof.v Y The ring 2 may be secured to the plate in any desired manner. As shown ,in Fig. 2 the ring may be bolted to flanges 10 formed integral with the plate. It is Obvious, however, that the ring may be soldered or welded in place as shown in Fig. 5, In case only a single mold or die is used on the press table, the inlet and outlet nozzles 4 and 5 preferably communicate directly with the annular channel A3. j Said nozzles may be of any'desired construction,
which will insure a tight joint being made.
In this construction preferably stops l2 are arranged inthe annular passage, which cause the larger portion of the fluid to pass through the central or main passage lbut permit a small quantity thereof to pass through the annular passage in at least one direction. In case a number of molds or dies are used in connection with a single press, however, the inlets are preferably tapped into the bottom of the mold or die as shown in Fig. 5, and communicate directly with the central or main passage 7 which, in turn, communicates with the annular passage 3 through the openings provided therefor.
Preferably small openings 1l are arranged through the ring 2 opposite the central passage, which will enable same to be cleaned and prevent clogging. These openings are normally plugged as shown.
In operation fluid is admitted through the inlet pipe and will circulate throughout all parts of the mold and finally leave the die or mold through the outlet pipe. By this construction the mold is kept heated uniformly throughout practically its entire area, and consequently the dough or paste will pass with equal facility through all the openings, which may be provided with pins or guides of any preferred construction.
Heretofore varipus yattempts have been made to heat the presses, but in such cases the circulation of fluid has been around the outside of the press, thus leaving large portions of the area of the mold or die at a lower temperature. This caused that por tion' of the doiigh or paste adjacent to the' heatedv portions tovpass through the openings inore readily than the dugh or paste adjacent to the cooler portions', and thus caused the openings in such eboler portion tobecoine clogged.v i y i y y By my constructionthe doiigh or lpaste will pass evenly through all of the' openings, thus lpreventing clogging land als'o lpermitting the output of the press to be increased at less eXpense, since lesspr'essuie is required whenjthe dough or paste partially heated.
l 'claim as mjy invention A 1. In' a mold for forming pastes, a plate having a peripheral channel, a,ring closing `said channel to form a passage for a heating fluid, said'plate having a main passage and smaller passages placing said inain passage in fluid communication lwith said peripheral channel, an inlet and an outlet to said channel ppositely` disposed to each other and to one side of said main passage, a lstop having a restricted passageway therethrough for directing the fluid lfrom ,said inlet through said peripheral channel and -inain passage, said plate having openings extendtherethrough for the passage of the paste and surrounded by said ehannel and PiSSageS- 2. In a mold for forming pastes, a plate means `for maintaining thep'a'ste' in a heated condition while passing through said openings, said means including a plurality of connected passages in said plate surrounding said openings and positionedbetween the opposite ends of said openings, certainl of said passages having open ends for facilitating circulation, means for feeding a heat ing fluid through saidpas'sages ancla restriction in one' of said passages to distribute the flow through the several passages.'V l
3; In a mold for forming paste's, a plate having a peripheral channel, a ring 'closing saidchannel to forni apassage for a. heating fluid, said plate having a main passage and smaller passages placing said Vinain passage in flnid commnnjication with said peripheral channel, an inlet and an otitlet to said channel dppos'itely disposed to each'othen'and to one side of Asaid passage; said ring havingplugged openings in line with said inain passagey to facilitate eleailing the saine, a stop having a restricted passageway therethrough lfr direetilig the fluid from said inlet through said peripheral channel and main passage, said plate having openings entending therethrough for `the passage of the paste, and surroundedby said channel andpassages. i v Y IThis specification signed and witnessed this 4th day of' August D., 19,11.
