Be it known that I, JOHN TALooTr WELLS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Scottsville, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsl in Silos, of which the following is a specification. H
My invention is designed' as an improved storing structure and relates particularly to silos of that type comprising a pluralityrof eomplemental or interlocking silo sections.
The invention consists in the novel construction, combination andV arrangement of parts to be hereinafterrdescribed and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Proceeding now with a description, 1 designatesV as an entirety theV outer silo shell or wall and 2 as an entirety a Vsimilarly constructed inner silo shell or wall. Each wall is made or built up of a plurality of interlocking complemental vertically disposed boards or strips designated 3, the same, .when assembled, forming a structure comprising, as suggested, an inner and outer wall, c ircular in Vcross section. The silo roof, designated 4,'may be of any suitable or accepted design.' l y l In its preferred embodiment, the interior structure, or' the structure intermediate the mentioned walls, may be said to consist of a plurality of hoops or bands, preferably sectional, the several bands, by reason of the arrangement noted,- bracing the silo at intervals throughout.`

upon a plastic bed or foundation 4, one of the interior hoops or bands, designated 5, being flanged as indicated at 6 to fit a circulargroove therefor 7 formed in the men-` tioned bed. The hoop or band 5 consists of a plurality of segment sections (preferably three) arranged end to end and fastened in the manner shown to advantage in Fig. 6. Said hoop or band is provided with a circular flange 8 which, with a like flange 9 formed upon a second hoop or band 10 is adapted to form a circular groove within which the lower marginal edge of a dividing' plate 11 is fitted. Band 10, like the band 5, is adapted to rest upon the concrete bed or foundation and comprises, like the said band 5, apluralityof segment sections arranged end to end. While no flange similar to that designated at Gis shown forming a part of the band 10, it is to be understood that such may be provided, if desired. Hoops 5 and 10 abut throughout their entire circumference, hoop 10 being the smaller and therefore positioned innermost.
Between the inner wall 2 of the silo and the hoop 10 is arranged a thin water proof substance such as waterproofed papeigsa-id substance being designated 12 and of such size as to extend vertically throughout the length of the silo. That the substance 12 may be spaced fromV the inner wall 2 I interpose between said inner wall and the inentioned substance a spacing strip or band 13, said band like the mentioned bands 5 and 10 resting upon the foundation 4. Water proof material 14 preferably lines the outer surface of the inner -wall structure 2, said Vlining being interposed between the band 13 and the said inner wall.
Water proof material 15 is interposed between the band or hoop 5 and a circumferentially divided hoop or band 16, the latter embracing the mentioned band 5, the division, as pointed out, affording a space 17 for a plurality of reinforcing cables 18 which are adapted to encircle the hoops or bands 5 and 10 to preclude relative displace- The outer silo wall structure 1 is lined with waterproof material as indicated at 19, said material being interposed between the dividing strips 16 and the said outer wall. Thel several strips 12,' 14, 15 and ,1.9 extend vertically' throughout the length of the silo and, with the dividing and supporting plate 11, form a plurality of spaces or chambers 20, said chambers, as will hereinafter appear, affording a means whereby heat and cold are excluded from the interior of the silo. The several lining strips will preclude leakage ofthe silo contents.
The arrangement of hoops and bands described as engaging the bed or foundation 4 has been duplicated at intervals throughout the height of the silo, the plate l1 supporting the hoops and bands other than the lowerniost. All of the hoops and bands constituting a single series are laterally alined and joined together, attaching plates 21 being provided for that particular purpose. The plates 2l overlap the segments-constituting the bands 5 and 10, the said plates being afiiXed (by any suitable means) to said abutting segments to thereby preclude displacenient of theY segments and maintain the hoops and bands constituting the several series at all times laterally alined.
Upon reference to Fig. 3 it will be noted that the plate 13 ismounted to engage between Hanges formed upon the bottom `edges of the hoops 5 and 10 constituting the seriesneXt above the series illustrated at the bottom of said Fig. 3.
lOpenings 22" may be formed in the silo, one ,above the other, each opening being normally closed by a hinged silo door 25, suitable fastening means such as is indicated at 24: 4maintaining the several doors normally in a closed position.
From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it will be noted that displacement of the silo body is prevented by the fitting engagement of the flange 6 within the groove therefor; that the chambers formed interiorly of the silo wal-l will preclude passage of heat and cold therethrough; and that by extending the A'cables l8'circumferentially of each series of hoops, the severalhoops are firmly fastened l one to the other and in lateral alinement thereby bracing and holding the boards constituting the inner silo wall against separation after continued use.
The outer silo wall l may be nailed or otherwise fastened in place and against movement with respect to the inner silo wall.
In reduction to practice, `I have found that the form of my invention, illustrated in the drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiment, is the most eflicient and practical; yet realizing that the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, I desire to emphasize the fact that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, when required, without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention, as defined 'in the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my invention, what -I `claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a silo, an inner structure, an outer structure, superimposed hoops interposed between the mentioned structures, each hoop comprising a plurality of segment sections, dividing plates positioned to extend vertically between the mentioned structures, the dividing plates forming interior chambers, and means on the hoops to support the plates against lateral displacement, theplates affordinga Vsupport for the several superiinl the hoops fincluded insaid seriesa dividing A, plate engaging the flanges o f adjacent series, the flanges precluding lateral displacement of the mentioned plate, said plata'affording a support for the mentioned series,
