To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. BUENTE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fences, of which the followin is a full, clear, and exact description, re erence being had to the accompan ing drawin s, forming part of this speci cation, in w ich-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a fence constructed in accordance with my invention;

My invention has relation to fences, and while it has been more particularly designed to provide a construction adapted for use as a road guard, it is applicable to fences generally where it is desired to provide for readily changing the angular relations of the rails with respect to the posts. My invention has also been particularly designed in connection with post and rail members made of reinforced concrete.
The nature of my invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings in which I have shown a pre-' ferred embodiment thereof, and which will now be described.
The postsf2 may be in general of any desired form or construction. They are preferably, however, shaped from concrete with suitable metal reinforcements, such as indicated at 8. The opposite surfaces 4 of each post are formed with longitudinally extending concavities for the purpose hereinafter described. 5 designate rail attaching members, each of which may consist of a piece of metal plate embedded in the concrete body of the post with its end portions extending beyond the concave sides 1- and provided with openings or perforations 6.
The rail members are also preferably formed of shaped concrete'bodies 7 having metal reinforcements, such as indicated at 8. Each end of each rail is formed with a heel portion 9 which is convex both transversely, as indicated at 10, and vertically, as indicated at 11, and ada ted to have bearing contact with one o the concave faces 4:. I also preferably form the under side of said heel portion where it rests on the attaching plate 5' with a convexed surface to facilitate vertical angular adjustment of the rail. In the end portion, each rail has embedded a hook member 12 adapted for engagement with a perforation 6 in one of the attachment plates 5. The book may, if desired, be secured in any suitable way, as by a nut 13.
The post and rail members may be readily formed in a shop or factory and shipped to the place where they are to be used. The rail members can, if desired, all be dupiicates, and capable of use either end first. The bearing of the convex heel portions 9 on the concave sides of the post enable the angular position of the rails to be changed either in a vertical or in a horizontal plane, or in both such planes. If desired, a corner post may be employed, such as shown in Fig. 6, having three or more concave faces 14 with as many of the attaching members 15 as may be necessary; or a corner post may be used such as shown in Fig. '4', which the concave face 16 will permit the rail member at the right hand side to be set at any desired horizontal angle within a range of 90.
.The attaching plates 5 not only provide for positive connection between the rails and post, but they also form supports for the rails. The perforations 6 may be made sufficiently large to allow for the necessary angular adjustment.
It will readily be understood by those familiar with the art that the concavities might be placed in the ends of the rails and the posts may be formed with convex surfaces to seat in said concavities.
Fences can be constructed in accordance with my invention at a relatively low cost and are strong and durable.
My invention is susceptible of many modifications within the scope of the appended rails, one above another may be employed; such rails, together with the posts, may be claims. Obviously, any desired number of of various designs; and the concavities in the posts which form the bearings for the rail ends, instead of being continuous may be separately provided for each rail. It will also be apparent that the form of at taching plates and hooks may also be changed.
I claim: i
1. A concrete fence, comprising posts having concave seats in the sides thereof, the posts having metallic rail attaching and supporting members extending laterally therefrom, said rail members having convex ends arranged to be seated in the concave .recesses in the posts, said rail members also having concave portions adapted to engage the attaching and supporting members extending from the posts, and means on the rails for adjustably securing the rails to the supporting members; substantially. as described.
