F. CECKA.
STRAIGHT HOSVIERY FRAME. APPLICATION FILED use. 5. 1916.

UNITED QFFIE FRANZ CEGKA, OF CHEMNITZ, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO THE FIRM 0F SCH'UBERT 8s SALZER MASCHINENFABBIK, AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT, 0F CHEMNITZ, GERMANY.
STRAIGHT I-IOSIERY-FRAME.
Patented July 31, 1911.
Original application filed December 8, 1913, Serial No.,805,328. Divided and this application filed December 5, 1916. Serial 110,135,189.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANZ CECKA, a citizen of Germany, and residing at Chemnitz, in the Kingdom of Saxony, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Straight Hosiery-Frames, of whlch the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in straight hosiery frames, and more particularly in hosiery frames, in which stop or retarding members are provided for retarding the speed of the thread guides. A frame of this class is described in the patent of the United States to Lieberknecht, Nr. 981,663, of January 17, 1911. As described in the said patent the object of the retarding or stop members is to soften the shocks or blows which are produced When the thread guide bars strike on these stops. As shown in the said patent the speed of the thread guides is retarded by gradually reducing the speed almost to zero, as the thread guide bar approaches the end of its stroke.
I have discovered, that for practical purposes it is suflicient to reduce the speed of the thread guide bars in a smaller degree, and more particularly to about one half the ordinary speed of the knitting operation. Thereby I am enabled to provide more simple means for retarding the speed by connecting the retarding means with the knitting mechanism and constructing the same in such a way, that in knitting the slur is carried along each time in the direction of the knitting operation, so that special mechanisms are avoided.
Therefore the object of the improvements is to provide retarding means in a hosiery frame, which are very'simple in construction and effective in operation. l Vith this object in view my invention consists in providing retarding means, in which the degree of the retardation remains constant and is the same at the end of the movement of the thread guides as 'at the beginning of the retardation. In the practical construction the retarding means consists of a stop member or brake for the frame guide carrier, which is carried along in both knitting directions and which moves at a lower speed than the slur or thread guide bar, and which is mounted in such a way, that it is overtaken by the member which carries the in hosiery frames.
frame guide bars'along, and thereafter retards the same.
For the purpose of explaining the invention an example embodying the same is shown in the accompanying drawing in a front view.
In the example illustrated in the drawings the hosiery frame is provided with a slur connecting bar a; of usual construction, which is adapted to be reciprocated from a knitting cam 17 through the intermediary of a rod 0, a rocking knit-ting lever d and a connecting rod 6. On the bar a the member for carrying along the thread guide bar h provided with a thread guide 2' is mounted, which member consists of a bar fsecured to brackets f mounted on the bar a. The bar 7 is frictionally engaged by an arm 9 which is adapted to carry along the thread guide bar h. The said carrying mechanism depends upon the movement of the knitting mechanism, and the same speed is imparted thereto as to the knitting mechanism, and the said speed is transmitted to the thread guide bar it.
The mechanism so far described is known In the example shown in the drawing my improved retarding mechanism connected with the knitting mechanism consists of a rod Z, which is mounted for reciprocation in longitudinal direction in suitable bearings m, and which is connected by a link at with a rocking lever d operated from a cam b by means of a rod 0'. The member 9 which carries the thread guides along overtakes a stop member s or 8 provided on the bar Z which always moves in the same direction as the member 9 and at a smaller speed. When the member 9 has thus overtaken one of the stops, it is forced to assume the smaller speed of the bar Z, until it arrives at the end of the stroke of the thread guide which is limited by a fixed stop is. In order that the speed of the member 9 can thus be retarded it engages the bar f by friction, so that it slides longitudinally of the bar f. The same operation is performed in both knitting mechanisms, both retarding stops 8 and 8 being alternately thrown into operation.
I claim In a hosiery frame, a reciprocable slur connecting bar, a thread guide bar frictionally connected with the latter, a stop memto and adapted to impart to said stop member adapted to retard the movement of the her a reciprocating motion at a lower speed. 10 thread guide bar, means for imparting re- In testimony whereof I hereunto airix my ciprocating motion to the connecting bar, signature in the presence of two witnesses. 5 comprising a rocking lever connected with FRANZ CECKA.
and adapted to impart to said connecting Witnesses: bar a reciprocating motion at a certain RENE) DE WOLF, speed, another rocking lever being connected WVAL ER H. MUooK
