Description
JOHN SCOTT.
Improvement in Hay Presses.
No. 123,517. Patented Feb.'6,1872.
r 74 @672 c sses Z7? ve 22 (an UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN SCOTT, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
SPECIFICATION. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN Sco'r'r, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Pressing Hay or other Substances by Hy draulic and Pneumatic Power.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a plain cylinder, A, open at both ends, which has two ports, E and F, at the center, to receive and discharge water or air. There are two rams, B, in cylinder A, working in opposite directions, toward heads (3. G is the space for the material to be pressed. D are connecting-rods, connecting heads 0 together to resist the strain of the rams B, and forming guides for the rains.
The movement of the press thus constructed IM PROVEMENT IN HAY-PR ESSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,517, dated February 6, 1872.
is as follows: The Water or air being forced into the center of cylinder A, through port E, acts equally upon both rams and drives them toward heads 0. The water or air will then be discharged through port F from cylinder A, and the rams then drawn back to the center of cylinder A, and the operation of the press is completed.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a hydraulic press, substantially as herein described, the arrangement of press-boxes G, rams B, and ports E F, as and for the purpose set forth.
Witnesses: JOHN SCOTT.
