BUCKET ELEVATOR.
Specication of Letters Patent.

To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, vWiLLIAM W. HUDSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Anaconda, in the county of Deerlodge and State of Montana, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bucket Elevators, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in bucket elevators, and has for its object to provide a device of the character specified especially adapted for the expeditious handling of crushed ore, stone, and like material, wherein a cable is used for supporting the buckets, the buckets being connected directly with the cable and carried thereby.

In the present embodiment of the invention, the buckets which are of usual construction, are connected with the cable 2 by means of the connecting plates shown in Fig. 4, the said plates serving a double function, namely, that of connecting the buckets and reinforcing the rear wall of the buckets. These plates 3 have extensions l interinediate their ends, and on that face adjacent to the cable, each extension has an enlargement 5 which is grooved transversely of the plate to receive the cable Holding clips 6 are provided for engaging the opposite side of the cable, and the said plates have openings for receiving the arms of staples 7 which are passed through registering openings in the extensions, and the clips are engaged by nuts to clamp the clips in place. The plates are thus connected with the cable, yet in such manner that they may be detached when desired for any purpose. The buckets are secured to the plates at the ends thereof by means of bolts and nuts S and at the top of the plate and at each end thereof a hook 9 is provided, the said hook extending in an opposite direction from the bucket and being adapted to engage over the supporting wheel to be later described.
The said supporting wheel comprises a central toothed section l0, the teeth having grooves 1l for receiving the cable 2, and the said grooves being in register circumferentially of the wheel section, and the said section is keyed to a shaft 12. The improved wheel consists of the central section l0 and lateral sections 13 also keyed to the shaft, and both the said lateral sections have the same number of teeth as the central section and similarly placed.
Rollers le are ournaled at the ends of the teeth, each roller being journaled on a bolt l5 which is passed through the wheel and through a bearing in the tooth, and is engaged by a nut 16 on the inner face of the wheel section. Y It will be noticed from an inspection of Fig. 1 that the teeth of Vthe central wheel section 10 are slightly in advance of the teeth of the lateral wheel sections, aiid the buckets are so spaced that as each bucket reaches the wheel the rollers 14 will engage the hooks v9 of the bucket. At the opposite end from the wheel 11-13,the cable passes over the usual boot pulley 17,
this pulley being of the same design as the head pulley.
I claim 1. A bucket elevator comprising, in combination with the buckets, of a cable, means for connecting the buckets to the cable to travel therewith, and a driving wheel for the cable, said wheel and buckets having interengaging means for preventing slippage of the cable, the connecting means for the buckets consisting of plates arranged transversely of the cable and having means for connecting the plates thereto, means for detachably connecting the Vbuckets with the plates, each plate having at each end a hook extending inwardlybeyond the cable, and a wheel having rollers for engagement by the hooks.
2. A bucket elevator comprising in combination with the buckets, of a cable, means for connecting the buckets to the cable to travel therewith, and a driving wheel for the cable, said wheel and buckets havinginterengaging means for preventing slippage of the cable, said Wheel consisting of a central peripherally grooved wheel section and lateral sections, the means for preventing slippage comprising outwardly extending rollers on the lateral sections and spaced to correspond with the spacing of the buckets, the buckets having hooks for engaging the rollers.
