Description

that
G. G. BLANDFORD.

APPLICATION FILED JULY 25. 1916.
' 1,234,719. Patented July 31, 1917.
// ZF i/ UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE G. BLANDFORD, OF HERRING NECK, NEWFOUNDLAND.
MARKING-GAGE.
Application filed July 25, 1916.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE Gr. BLANDFORD, a subject of the King of England, residing at Herring Neck, on Notre Dame Bay, Newfoundland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Marking-Gages; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to marking gages.
The object of the invention is to provide a marking gage which will be simple in construction, eflicient in use, easily adjusted, and cheap to manufacture.
lVith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to behereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of a marking gage constructed in accordance with the invention,
Fig. 2, a plan view of what is shown in Fig. 1,
Fig. 8, a longitudinal section of the gage,
Fig. 4, a section on the line l1 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 5, an end view of the gage.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 31, 1917.
Serial No. 111,325.
Referring to the drawing the improved gage is shown as comprising a stock 10 having a square cross section and provided with a longitudinal passage 11 in which is rotatably mounted a shaft 12. Secured to one end of the stock 10 is a bearing plate 13 and fixed on the adjacent end of the shaft 12 is a toothed disk 14 which constitutes the marking element of the gage. Fixed on the end of the shaft 12 remote from the disk 11 is another disk 15 which bears against the adjacent end of the stock 10 and serves in conjunction with the disk 14 to hold the shaft 12 against longitudinal movement. Slidably mounted on the stock 10 is a gage block 16 having mounted therein a binding screw 17 adapted to impinge against a metallic strip 18 embedded in the stock 10 for the purpose of locking the block 16 in a desired adjustment.
What is claimed is:
A marking gage comprising a stock, a shaft rotatably mounted in the stock and extending from end to end through the latter, a toothed marking disk fixed on one end of the shaft, the outer face of which constitutes substantially one end face of the tool, and a gage block adjustably mounted on the stock.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE G. BLANDFORD.
Witnesses:
J OSEPH B. FARTHING, FRANK S. LOOKYER.
