Fig. 5 is a fragmentary sectional view showing the means for rotating one of the rods provided with an eccentric on which one of the door members is mounted.
By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the car body 5 has a door frame having sides 6 and 7, there being a metal plate 8 at the side 6 of the door frame, this metal plate at the inner side of the door frame extending laterally at 9, a flange 10 projecting from the lateral portion 9 of the plate 8 in the general direction of the side 7 of the door frame. Against the said side 7 of the door frame there is a plate 11 provided with a shoulder 12. Bearings 13 are mounted on the car at the side 7 of the door frame, a rod 14 being journaled in these bearings 13 and being provided with an eccentric 15 on which the hinges 16 are slidably mounted, these hinges 16 being fastened to the door member 17 which is provided witha flange 18 for disposal between the fiange 10 and thelaterally extending portion 9 of the plate 8. Disposed adjacent lthe side 6 of the door frame there isr a rod 19 journaled in bearings 20, the rod 19 being provided .with an eccentric 21 on which are slidably mounted the hinges 22, the said hinges 22 being fastened to the door member.23. This door member 23 is provided witha flange 24 for disposal between the flange 10 and the laterally extending portion 9 of the plate 8.
It will be understood that with this construction the door member 17 may be moved 4substantially .to a closed position when'by a rotary movement of the rod 14 its flange' 18 may be disposed in the position indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawings to lock the door member 17 at its flange 18 and prevent any possible leakage at this point. In a similar manner the door member 23 maybe moved substantially to closed position when the rod 19 may be rotated thereby permitting the movement of the flange 24 between the fiange 10 and the `lateral portion 9 of the plate 8 after which the door 23 may be pushed into place against the shoulder 12 on the plate 11, which will prevent any leakage between the said plate 24 and the side 6 of the door frame. `When the door members 17 and 23 have been moved to closed positions the latch 25 pivoted at 26 to the door member 23 may be moved to the position indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawings where it will have its terminal disposed in locking position with the eccentric 15 of the rod 14. To prevent lateral displacement of the latch 25 when in locked position, I provide a guard 27 which engages the latch 25 to hold it in place. As the latch 25 is adjacent the top of the doorway it may be readily opened from the top of the door member 23. To the top of the rod 14 there is secured an arm 28 by means of which the rod 14 may be rotated to free the flange 18 on the door member 17 from the flange 10. It will, therefore, be understood that after the latch 25 is freed from the rod 14 that the door member 23 may be slightly opened when it will be possible to move the door member 23 laterally with its flange 24 out of engagement with the flange 10, after which the door member 23 may freely move the hinges v 22 permitting the operator to swing the door member 23 in a complete half circle, when the door member 23 may be raised with` the hinges 22 so that it may be supported on the bracket 29 in position indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1 of thedraw? ings. When the rod 14 has been rotated by the arm 28 it will move the flange 18 out of engagement with the flange 10, after'which the `door member 17 may be completely opened and be moved upwardly with the hinges 16 sliding on the rod 14 to the posithe other side of the door membery 17 there is aplate 36which is bent to t the shoulder 12,this plate having abent side 36a; .the said bent sides 18a and 36a being connected by braces 37. In a similar manner braces 38 connecty the bent side 24a of the flange 24 and the bent side 39a of the plate 39.

1. In a grain car door, aV door frame having a side with arflange extending in the general direction ofthe opposite side of the door frame, two rods pivoted one at each side of the door frame, the rodsbeing each provided with an eccentric, two doors normally disposed one above the other, flanges on the doors for moving with the said doors longitudinally of the door frame to positions where the second mentioned flanges will in-V terlock withV the rstmentioned flanges,
hinges secured to one of the doors and slidably mounted on one of the eccentrics, hinges secured to the other door and mounted on the other eccentric, an arm disposed above the normal position of the doors and secured to the rod having the eccentric to which the lower door is hinged, and a latch on the upper door lfor engaging the last mentioned ro 2. In a grain car door, a door frame having a side with a flange extending in the direction of the opposite side of the door frame, two rods pivoted one at each side of the door frame parallel therewith, the rods being provided with eccentrics, two doors normally disposed one above the other, flanges on the doors for moving with the doors longitudinally of the door frame to positions where the second flanges will interlock with the rst flange, and hinges secured to the doors and slidably mounted on the eccentrics.
3. In a grain car door, a door frame having a side` with a flange extending in the direction of the opposite side of the door frame, two rods pivoted one at each side of the door frame parallel therewith, the rods being provided with eccentrics, two doors normally disposed one above the other, flanges on the doors for moving with the doors longitudinally of the door frame to positions where the second mentioned flanges will interlock with the first flange, hinges secured to the doors and slidably mounted on the eccentrics, locking means on the free end of one of the doors for engaging the rod adjacent thereto, and means normally disposed above the doors for rotating the last-mentioned rod.
