BAG REINFORCEMENT AND HANDLE.
To all whom 2'25 may concern.
Be it known that I, Loorr F. HUTOHISON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Northbranch, in the county of Jewell and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag Reinforcements and Handles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in fabric receptacles or bags, more particularly to devices of this character employed for conveying rough products, such as dry or pulverized cement and the like, and has for one of its objects to improve the construction and increase the efliciency and utility of devices of this character.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed attachment which may ,be applied without structural change to bags of various sizes and to bags constructed of various fabrics and which does not interfere with the ordinary use of the bag.
described and then specifically pointed out in the claims; and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention Figure 1 is a perspective view of one of the improved bags filled and closed;
Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional detail on the line 3*?) of ig. 1;
Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional detail on the line H of Fig. 1.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same he improved device may be arranged in connection with bags of various forms and sizes and to bags employed for various purposes, and does not require any structural change in the bag.
The improved attachment comprises a band represented conventionally at 10 and secured around the interior of the bag, represented conventionally at 11, preferably near the closed lower end and spaced from the open end. Any required number of the ands may be employed but generally two will. be sufficient, as shown. The bands will be of any suitable material but will gener- Specification of Letters Patent.

ally be constructed from the same material as that from which the bag is constructed and rolled longitudinally into a plurality of layers, as represented in *ig. 3, and stitched or otherwise secured at its edges, as indiat 12, to the body of the bag. The member 10 is designed as a reinforcement to the body of the bag, and extends entirely around the interior of the same, as shown.
Attached to the exterior of the bag opposite each of the reinforcing members 10 is a andle or grip member, represented as a whole at 13 and formed of a layers and of any suitable material. handles are preferably formed of a suitable number of thicknesses of the material, for instance four, as illustrated in Fig. 3, but an y required number of the layers or thicknesses may be employed. hen the body of the bag is of sufficiently heavy material a portion of the same material may be employed for the handles, but if heavier or stronger handles are required the latter may be constructed of stronger material as will The handle members are secured in any suitable manner, preferably b rivets 14: which pass through all of the thick nesses of the handle members, through the body portion of the bag, and likewise through the several thicknesses of the reinforcing member 10, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. If found necessary one or both of the heads of the rivets may be reinforced by washers of leather or like material, represented at 15.
be obvious.
strains upon the material of the bag. By this arrangement the strains are distributed over a relatively large portion of the surface of the bag and thereby increasing its durability and resisting powers.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1 A device of the the handle, and I fastening. devices engaging through the handle ends, the body of the receptacle, and the reinforcing band.
2. A device of the class described comprising a receptacle of flexible material, a reinforcing band extending entirely aroun the interior of the receptacle and attached thereto, a handle hearing at its ends against the exterior of the receptacle, supplemental reinforcing devices engaging the band opposite the handle ends, and fastening devices engaging through the'handle. ends, the body of the receptacle, the reinforcing band and the supplemental reinforcing devices.
Copies of this patent may be obtained. for'five cents each, by addressing 3. Adevice of the. class described, comprising a receptacle of flexible material including one open end, a reinforcing band extending entirely around the interior of the receptacle and spaced from its open end, said band being attached to the receptacle as by stitching, a handle hearing at its ends against the exterior of the receptacle, with the material of the receptacle between the band and the handle, and fastening devices engaging through the handle, the body of the receptacle and the reinforcing band.
In testimony whereof I a liix my signature.
