Be it known that I, ALBERT Ecennsemncss a citizen of the United States, residing at Oshkosh, in the county of Winnebago and State of l Visconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Punching-Machine Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a new and useful attachment for multiple die punching machines and has for its object the providing of a simple attachment which can be mounted on machines now in use.
A :liurther object is to provide extension so the dies can be moved without hand i'nanipulation.
In the drawings Figure 1 shows a machine of ordinary construction with the attachment mounted; Fig. 2 is a section through one of the usual cup dies; Fig. 3 a detail of a portion of the attachment; Fig. 1 a swivel die holder and Fig. 5 a plan view of a part of the attachment.
In the ordinary use of machines of this class which are used largely in punching and forming, assembling buttons and the like it is customary to have a reciprocating punch and two dies mounted on a swivel holder so that either die can be moved to axial position with the punch but it is necessary to move the dies by hand which is exceedingly dangerous to the operator and a considerable space of time is lost in this operation. This invention consists of attachments for such machines that will enable the dies to be shifted by the knee of the operator while the hands are free to manipulate the work material and consists of a punched piece of sheet metal 1 better shown in Fig. 5, with a hole 2 and an oblong hole 3 therethrough, the object of the oblong hole being to permit variance in distances from center to center of the studs the plate is to fit over. Another h ole 4 is punched through the plate to clear pivot screws which is the center point of swivel of the die holder. An extending pin 5 is secured to the plate 1 as shown and of suitable length to reach actuating devices. The general construction of machines for which this device is designed comprises a swinging die holder 6 pivoted at 7 and has two tapped holes F3 to receive Specification of Letters Patent.

dies 9, so the die 9 can be moved so that either one will be set axially with the punch 10, the punch being actuated by a hand lever 11 or by a foot lever.
The plate 1 is set on top of the swinging die holder 6 and the dies 9 inserted through the holes 2 and 3 and screwed into the holder 6 which holds the plate 1 firmly with the holder and moves therewith.
For moving the holder a knee lever 12 is employed being formed into a double bifurcated fork and pivoted near the center at 13to a. bracket 14-, the bracket being secured to the table which supports the machine so the upper fork will engage the pin 5. It will be seenthat a movement of the fork 12 will eiiectmovement of the die holder 6 which is conveniently manipulated by the knee of the operator.
ln'operation the operator sits in front of the machine in the usual manner and so the knee will conveniently fit into the lower fork and the dies are moved from one side to the other thereby.
Nothing is claimed on the machine itself, but only on the simple and inexpensive attachment for the purpose sperified.
What I claim is 1. In a die press the combination of: a plurality of movable dies adapted to be brought individually into alinement with a single punch a holder means on said dies for engaging said holder, a pivot on which said holder is mounted, an independent plate adapted to fit on said holder and provided with holes for the passage of said engaging means and pivot, certain of the holes being enlarged so as to permit the plate to he used on slightly different holders, a projecting portion. on said plate extending beyond the edge of the holder, and means for engaging said projecting portion to oscillate the holder.
