Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 141, 191th.
i Application filed July 15 1916. Serial No. 109,494.
To all whom may concern:
. Be it known that I, Home M. MYnRs, a" citizen: of the United States, and a resident 'uniform'layer of material on the roadway as the truck moves along.
In the drawings:
' Figure 1 is a front view of the improved machine.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view from the front. 3
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail of a portion of one end showing the sliding shoe construction.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view from the rear.
Fig. 5 is a section on the line 55 of Fig. 4.
The present embodiment of the invention is shown in connection with a truck indicated at 1, the machine being drawn behind the truck. This machine comprises a hopper shaped casing, consisting of front and rear walls 2 and 3 and end walls'e, the said walls 2, 3 and 4 being of suitable metal and reinforced at their top by angle plates 5. Similar angle plates 6 are arranged at the ends, between the ends and the front,
and rear walls, and these plates extend across the lower ends of the sides, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. Shoes consisting of portions"? and 8 arranged at an obtuse angle with respect to each other are secured to the ends of the casing at the bottom thereof, the portions 7 of the said shoes extending across the ends of the bottom.
These shoes 78 are secured to the angle plates 6 and to the front wall 2 by means of bolts and nuts 9, and an angle clip 10 has one ofits portions secured to the portion 8 of the shoe, the other portion of the clip having an opening for engagement by one .end of a chain 11. These chains 11 have rear axle of the truck 1.
each wheel being on a shaft 15, which is heldin sectional bearing brackets 16 secured to the front wall, thewheels being at opposite sides of the center of the said front wall. Approximately one-half of the rear wall of the casing is omitted, namely the lower portion of the said wall, and the opening so formed together with the open bottom forms the outlet through which the stone passes onto the roadway. A door or gate 17 is provided for partially closing the opening in the rear wall, and the saidv door or gate is secured to theangle plate 6 and the rear wall, by means of bolts and nuts 18. A series of openings 19 is provided in the angle plate 6 of the front wall and in the wall, to permit the position of the door to be varied, and by engaging the bolts and nuts 18 with different openings, the width of the discharge opening for the 'hop er casing can be varied. T e door is pre erably reinforced with angle lates 20, at the top ends, bottom and att e center.
The shoes 78 serve as sliding shoes upon which the casing with its load moves and the said shoes revent the casing sinking in soft sand, or instance.
The operation of the device is as follows:
The hopper is placed on the roadway, as shown in Fig. 1. and the truck is backed up into position before it, as shown in Figs. 2 to 5. The chains 11 are connected with the eyes 12, and the end gate of truck is opened partially, as shown, to permit the material to flow into the hopper. The gate is already regulated to dischargethe proper the material at a uniform depth and-width,
and the ends of the hopper serve to gage the width of the material delivered.
The improved distributor may be used in any connection wherein it is desired to distribute a uniform layer of material, and it will handle slag or stone. I claim:
gravel as. readily as 1. A-road' building machine comprising a hopper shaped container having front and rear walls diverging toward the open top of the container and having an open bottom,
Wheels on the front Wall near the bottom, a
connected with the shoe and having hooksfor engaging a truck for delivering material into the hopper.
2. A road building machine comprising a hopper shaped container having an open bottom and .open at the top and adapted to be drawn behind a truck containing material delivering into the container, said container having a discharge opening in its rear wall communicating with the open bottom, means for regulating the height of the discharge opening, sliding'shoes at the ends of the bottom of the hopper, and draft'mech- 'anism connected with the sliding shoes.
3. A road building machine comprising a container having an opening in its bottom and having a discharge opening in its rear Wall communicating with the opening in its bottom, means for regulating the height of the discharge opening, sliding shoes at the ends of the bottom of the container, and draft mechanism connected with the shoes.
4. A road building 'machine comprising a container having an opening inits bottom and having a discharge opening in its rear Wall communicating with the opening in its bottom, means for regulating the height of the discharge opening, and sliding shoes at the ends of the bottom of the container.
