Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 1 1), 191?.
Application filed August 15, 1916. Serial No. 114,969.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM JAMEs MYATT, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Argent Works, F rederick street, in the city of Birmingham, England, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements Relating to Safety- Razors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to safety razors and has for its object to provide improved means for adjusting the blade relatively to the usual guard.
Referring to the accompanying sheet of explanatory drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation, Fig. 2 a sectional side elevation, Fig. 3 a rear elevation and Fig. 4 a plan of an adjustable safety razor constructed in accordance with this invention.
In carrying the invention into efiect as shown, a guard a of ordinary form is attached to one end of a handle I), and at the ends of the guard a pair of clips 0 are disposed for engagement by the ends of the front edge of the blade 05. These clips are formed on a resilient plate 6 secured on the handle beneath the guard and adjacent to the same are formed on the guard fixed or rigid fulcrum pieces 7 on which the blade rests. At the rear of the guard is pivoted a spring controlled movable clip 9 which extends along the back of the guard and is adapted to engage the rear edge of the blade. In difierent positions across the face of the rear clip are formed a convenient number 6. 9. three, of parallel longitudinal grooves or notches h with any one of which the rear blade edge can engage. By moving the rear edge of the blade from one groove to another the obliquity of the blade relative to the guard and the distance between the cutting edge and the guard is varied. A range of adjustment is thus obtained which enables the user to set the blade to suit his particular requirements. Actuation of the clip is efiected by a finger piece a. The clip is held in engagement with the blade by a spring actuated plunger y.
The invention is not limited to any particular construction of the clips and. fulcrum as these details may readily be varied without departing from the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a safety razor provided with a detachable blade, the combination comprising a guard, a pair of resilient clips adapted to receive the front edge of the blade, a rigid fulcrum piece in conjunction with the guard, a movable clip adapted to detachably engage the rear edge of the blade, and a plurality of notches in the said movable clip with any one of which the rear edge of the blade can be engaged, substantially as described.
52. In a safety razor provided with a detachable blade, the combination comprising a guard, a pair of resilient clips adapted to receive the front edge of the blade, rigid fulcrum pieces on the guard, a hinged clip adapted to engage the rear edge of the blade, a plurality of notches in the said movable clip with any one of which the rear edge of the blade can be engaged, and a spring plunger acting on the hinged clip, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
WILLIAM JAMES MYATT.
