AUTOMATIC DTVIDER-BLOCK FOR HAY -PRESSES.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed November 10, 1915. Serial No. 60,777.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK D. SCI-IOLL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Granville, in the county of McHenry, State of North Dakota, have invented a new and useful Automatic Divider-Block forHay- Presses; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, suchv as will enable others Heretofore, in the operation of baling presses, a pause or stop occurs in the baling, at every two or four strokes of the plunger, thereby consuming excessive time. Hence, the object of the present invention is to provide an automatic gravitating divider block, spring started, to eliminate the pause or stop, or intermissions between the bales, and to provide a machine, in which-the balingis continuous and uninterrupted. 1
In practical fields, the details of construction may necessitate alterations falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, and claimed.

Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 designates a casing of the baling press,in the baling chamber of which the usual or conventional plunger 2 is mounted, which plunger is providedwith the usual or conventional plunger rod 3, which may be operated in any suitable manner, not shown.
Projecting. from one side of the plunger 2 and extendingthrougha slot 4 in one side of the casing 1 is a laterally extending pin or h1g5. Rising upwardlyfrom the caslng 1 near one end is an arch guide 6, in which the automatically actuated gravitating spring started divider block 7 is mounted. Mounted in suitable bearings 8 is a rock shaft 9,
the ends of which terminate in forwardly and downwardly extending arms 10 and 11. The arms 10 and 11 are provided with laterally extending lugs 12. Extending transversely of the arch guides 6 and arranged normally adjacent the upper wall thereof is a plate 13, bothends of which extend partially downwardly and outwardly and terminate in the extension plates 14, upwardly through which the upper portions of the rods 15 extend, so that said extension plates will rest upon the collars 16, which are integral with said rods 15. The lower ends of the rods v15 are pivotally connected by the pins 17 to the lugs 12. Upon the upper ends of the rods 15 are washers 18, between which and said extension plates 14, springs 19 are interposed, there being nuts 20 threaded upon the upper ends of the rods 15, so that by adjusting the nuts, the tension of springs 19 may be increased or decreased. The rock shaft 9 substantially centrally thereof has fixed to it a downwardly extending arm 21,
to the lateral extensions 22 of which a supporting tongue 23 is fixed, so that when the rock shaft 9 is in the position shown clearly in Figs. 2 and 4, this supporting tongue engages under the divider block, to support the same, as clearly shown in Fig; 4. The arm 10 0f the rock shaft has an eye 24, to which one end of the spring 25 is connected. The other end of the spring 25 is connected to a lug 26 rising upwardly from the casing 1 of thebaling press. Pivoted by means of a bolt 27 to one side of the baling press casing is alever 28, the lower end of which has a laterally extending lug 29 which extends partially through the opening 30 in one side of the casing of thebaling press. A rod 31 is connected pivotally by a pin 32 to thelower extremity of the arm 10, as shown in Fig. 3. The lever 28 at lts upper end, as shown in Fig. l, is provided with an eye 28 through which one end portion of the rod 31 extends. Slidably adjustable on the rod, 31 is an abutment 35, the opposite walls of which have apertures 36, to receive a pin p placedinto the arch guide from one side thereof, to be supported-by the tongue '23,

In combination with a baling press casing having a baling chamber and a plunger operable therein, a guide on said casing, a divider block mounted therein, a rocking element having downwardly and forwardly extending arms, and provided with a member to support the divider block in said guide, spring means connected to one of the arms of said element whereby said member is held under the block to support the same, a device in the upper part of said guide and resting upon the divider block, means connected to said arms of the element and having yieldable connections with said device to force the divider block between the bale and the plunger, when said member is withdrawn from under the block, and means for rocking the element, said means consisting 'yieldable connections with said device, to
force the block between the bale and the plunger as soon as the plunger completes its rearward movement.
