When the firing pin 4 is in retracted or operative position the stop member 7 on the same is positioned a short-distance fromthe partition 8, and when the pinis released, the same will be guided in its movement bythe partition. In the front end of the casing 1 is an explosive cap 11 formed of some ,detonating material such as fulminate, dynamite, nitro-glycerin or other explosive com osition,"suitable for eflecting the firing o a blasting charge.

When the hooked portion .14 of the pull wire is positioned through the upper end of the pin, the coil spring is compressed, and the upper portion of the same will rest against the wire. The firing pin 4: is lifted or contracted to the position shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings to enable the hook' to pass through the upper end of the same and when inthis position, it will be held retracted against the tension of the coil spring.
In operation, when the various parts of the fuse are assembled as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, it will be seen that the firing pin is retracted against the tension of the coil spring, which will exert a constant forward pressure on the same, and also a tension against the hooked portion 14 of the pull wire. However, this wire is of sufficient strength to normally hold the pin lifted or retracted, and thesaid hooked portion is additionally strengthened by having its extremity disposed in the opening through the side of the casing. When in this position, the pointed lower or forward end of the firing pin will be spaced a short distance above the explosive cap 11 in the open end of the casing.

The tension. of the 0011 spring is not suflicient to I straighten out the hook, but rather tends to lock the same in position, so that it takes considerable outward pullon the wire 13to release the parts. If desired, the extre 't of the'hooked portion is disposed throug the side of the casing adjacent the upper edge ofthe same and may be soldered there to when the vcap is soldered to said casing.
This will form an additional securing means to prevent the hook from becoming acci-' dentally disengaged from the retracted pin.
From the foregoing descri tion of the construction and operation 0 my improved fuse, the manner of applyin the same'to use, and the o 'eration thereo will be readilyunderstoo and it will be seen that I have provided a; simple and elficient device of thls character for carrying out the objects of the invention. 7
I claim 1. A device of the class described comprising a tubular casing having one end closed, an explosive cap disposed in the open end of said casing, a firing pin ositioned longitudinally in. the casing and aving an openinglin its upper end, a pull wire extending a s ort distance through the closed end of the casing, a hook'on the inner end of r i said wire adapted to pass through the opening in the upper end of the fir ng pin and having its extremity positioned in the side of the casing, said hook being releasable wardly upon release of the same from the pull wire to explode the cap.

A device of the class described compris ing a tubular casing having one end closed, an explosive. cap disposed in the open end of said casing, a firing pin positioned longitudinally in the casing and having an opening in its upper end, a coil spring surrounding the upper end of said pin, a stop on the pin adapted to engage the lower end. of the spring, a partition adjacent the cap in the open end of the casing having a guide opening therethrough in which the pin is positioned, a pull wire extending a short distance through the closed end of the casing, a hook on the inner end of said wire adapted to pass through the opening in the upper sesame end of the filing pin when said pin is retractedagainst the tension of the coil spring, said hook having its extremity positioned in the side of the casing, and the hook being releasable upon the outward movement of the wardly to explode the cap.
