IMPROVEMENT IN CAR-COUPLINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,134, dated January 30, 1872.
Specification describiu g Improvementin Car- Couplings, invented by JAMES TEMPLE, of Bellefonte, in the county of Centre and State of Pennsylvania.
The invention will first be fully described, and then clearly pointed out in the claim.
Figures 1. and 2 are longitudinal and transverse sections of each other on lines .10 cc and 1/ 3/- A represents draw-heads; B, coupling-link; G,coupling-pins; I),swingingtri i-latches; and E, a movable yoke that guides pin. The yoke is itself guided by the bins F F, and is detachably connected with the coupling-pin bybolt G.
The general construction of this coupling is old, and the improvement which I have made is in the mode of applying the ordinary gate D to the draw-head. This trip-latch, when hanging perpendicular, supports the couplingpin, but, when the link pushes it out, allows the pin to fall within said link. I simply provide this trip-latch with two shanks or prolongations, cl (7, which are provided wit-11 journals at their ends, tit-ting in staple-bearings d d, attached to the top of draw-head.
This is simple, cheap, and perfectly eifective for the purpose intended.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, What I esteem to be new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
The trip-latch D, attached, as shown, to the upper partof the draw-bar, and operating, as shown, in connection with the pin 0 and its guiding-yolu'e G, the whole being constructed and applied to the ordinary draw-head, as shown and described.
