IMPROVEMENT IN FIRE-EXTINGUISHERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,106, dated January 30, 1872.
Specification describing certain Improvements in Fire Extinguishers, invented by ELIAS J ONEs, of (Jolton, St. Lawrence county, New York.
This invent-ion relates to revolving hydrau lic apparatus for extinguishing fires by means of a spherical segmental case having funnels projecting outward in various directions from its concave part, and having, also, ribs projecting inward from the same, and being suspended in a horizontal position upon a pipe passing vertically through the center of said case, which pipe has curved tubes extending from its exterior that convey the water which is forced through said pipe into the aforesaid case, directing the water against the ribs th ereof, and thus imparting a rotary motion to the ease, by which motion the water, as it is disch arged through the funnels above mentioned, is properly distributed.

ships deck, for instance. 0 are the curved tubes, extending from the outside of the pipe a, near its lower end. B is the spherical segmental ease through whose top the pipe (0 passes centrally, and whose bottom is connected by a bolt with the lower end of the pipe a. The flat and concave parts of the case B are fastened together by means of bolts f, a packing, I), being placed between the edges of said parts. 0 are the funnels of the case B, and d are its ribs. The rotary movement imparted to the case B by the impact of the currents of water issuing from the tubes 0 and striking against the ribs (1 tends to diffuse the streams that pour from the funnels 0, thus fitting the apparatus for the extinguish m ent of fires within the apartment where it is placed.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the pipe a, tubes 0, case B, ribs (1, and funnels 0, all arranged as specified.
