Be it known that I, JOSEPH lVIoRWiTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing 1n the Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Hydraulic Press, of which the following is a specification. f
My invention consists of a novel hydraulic press wherein a maximum pressure 1s obtained from a minimum expenditure of power.
It further consists of a novel construction and arrangement of pistons.
It further consists of other novel features of construction, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention, I have shown in the accompanying drawings a typical embodiment which is at present preferred by me, since the same will give in practice satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
Figure 1 represents a top plan view of a hydraulic press, embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 represents a section on line 2-2 of gimilar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.

l designates a fluid container thewalls of which have the requisite tensile capacity to withstand the pressure to which they are subjected. The container is provided with a removable top 2 which is secured in position by means of fastening devices 3 of any desired or conventional type. The top 2 is provided, if desired, with a filling aperture 4 which is sealed by means of a closure 5. The top is also provided with the annular flanges 6 forming a bearing for a piston 7 which latter is connected with a second piston 8 by means of a rod 9. The piston 8 is.
mounted in an annular ange 10 forming a 11 designates a prime mover which, for purposes of illustration, is shown as a weight to'which is connected a cable 12, whereby such weight may be raised and lowered as desired. 13 designates the base plate of the die 14 between which and said base plate is positioned a plate or member 15 which is to be embossed. 16 designates a lump of material to be pressed or pulverized, such as for example, ore.
In the use of my invention, the container is lilled with water, as seen in Fig. 2, and the removable top is securely fixed to the container.
Assuming now that the upper piston 7 has an area of one square foot in communication with the water in the container and the lower piston 8 has an area of nine-tenths of a square foot, and that the weight or prime mover 11 weighs ten pounds, and that the weight 11 is placed upon the upper piston 7, then the pressure of the water in the container against its inner walls is increased. The pistons do not move either upward or downward. When the weight is removed from the piston 7, the pressure within the container disappears at once.
My present invention may be employed for many purposes and in order to illustrate some of the practical uses of my apparatus, material in lump form, as at 16, may be placed within the container and a pressure exerted to cause the breaking or pulverizing of such-lumps. The pressure on the movable die 14, for example, will cause the plate 15 to be embossed. The raising or lowering of the weight l1 by any kind ofpower will put into or take out of action the pressure with a minimum expenditure of power.
It will now be apparent that I have de- Y vised a novel and useful hydraulic press,
which embodies the'features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description, and while I have, in the present instance, shown and described a typical embodimentthereof which will give in practice satisfactory and reliable results, it is to b e understood that the same is susceptible of modification in various particulars without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacriicing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-- ters Patent, is
1. A` device of the character stated, comprising a iuid container, an upper piston having its under surface contacting with the fluid, a lower piston having its upper surface contacting with the fluid, said pistons being connected and having their fluid contacting surfaces of different pressure areas,
