To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that CLIFFORD BARGAMIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newport News, in the county of Warwick and State of Va, have invented new and useful Improvements in Time-Controlled Mechanism, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to time"controlled trip mechanism, the object in view being to provide simple, reliable and efficient means for tripping or throwing into operation at a predetermined time, a controlling or actuating member of any suitable device or mechanism, the trip mechanism being con trolled by a spring motor such as clock .mechanism which may be set to run for any desired length of time.
A further object of this invention is to provide in connection with the tripping mechanism above referred to, means operating to automatically stop the spring motor or clock mechanism at or about the time the tripping mechanism is actuated.
With the above and other objects in View the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, herein fully described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a front elevation partly i section of the improved time controlled trip mechanism.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view thereof looking in the same direction.
Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings 1 designates a ortion of the body of the article in con. unction with which the trip mechanism is employed, and 2 designates the controlling or actuating element to be tripped by the time controlled mechanism, the member 2 being shown in the form of a rod slidable through one or more guides 3 and actuated by a spring 4, 5 designating a shoulder on the member 2 which is capable of being adjusted by means of a set screw 6.
A designates generally a spring motor embodying a mounting frame 7 which to-v gether with the spring motor mechanism is mounted within a casing 8 secured by means with a shoulder or latch lip' 12 which is movable into and out of the path of the shoulder 5 on the member 2. Connected to the latch 10 is one extremity ofv a flexible connection 13 such as a cord or cable, the other end of said connection 13 being attached to and wrapped around the winding arbor 14: of the spring motor or clock mechanism A.
On the front of the casing A is a stationary dial 15 and sweeping around said dial is a pointer or hand 16 which is fast on the arbor 14 outside of the casing 8. A stop arm 17 is also fast on the arbor 14 within the casing 8 and said arm 17 is provided at its free end with a laterally extending finger 18 which is adapted to come into contact with the escapement lever 19'of the spring motor or clock mechanism when the poipter or hand 16 returns .to zero on the dia In order to set the mechanism, the hand or pointer 17 is turned to the left in Fig. 1 thereby winding the spring motor and set ting the same to run for a predetermined number of minutes, the hand being shown in Fig. 1 as set for twenty minutes. The member 2 is shifted to the position shown in Fig. 1 so that the shoulder 5 thereof is upheld by the shoulder 12 of the spring latch 10. As the arbor 14E revolves under the action of the spring motor, the flexible conmotion 13 is wound around said arbor and when the hand 16 returns to zero, the shoulder 12 of the spring latch is drawn out from under the shoulder 5 of the member 2 thereby releasing the latter which is then acted upon by the spring 4. As the hand 16 reaches zero on the dial, the finger 18 of the arm 17 comes in contact with the escapement lever 19 and prevents the further vibration or swinging movement thereof thus stopping the motor or clock mechanism.
The time controlled trip mechanism hereinabove described and illustrated in the drawings is especially designed for use in connection with automatic fireless cookers but it will of course be understood that said trip mechanism may be used in many other connections which will readily suggest themselves to the manufacturer.
I claim 1. The combination with a controlling member having a shoulder, of time controlled trip mechanism embodying a selfsetting latch having a shoulder movable into fast on said arbor and also serving as a means for turning said arbor to wind the spring, simultaneously slack said flexible connection and permit the latch to reset itself.
2. The combination with a controlling member having a shoulder, of time con trolled trip mechanism embodying a selfsetting latch having a shoulder movable into and out of engagement with the shoulder of said controlling member for holding and re leasing the latter, a sprmg motor embody- 1,2'29,ss A
ing a spring winding arbor and an escapement lever, a flexible connection wound upon said arbor and attached to said latch, a dial, apointer fast on said arbor and also serving as a means for turning said arbor to wind the spring motor, simultaneously slacking said flexible connection and permitting the latch to reset itself, and a stop arm fast on said arbor and movable into and out of engagement with said escapement lever, for thepurpose of stopping the motor when the pointer returns to zero. a
