GEORGE H. KRAUSKOPF, OF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC AND MANUFACTURING COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF PENNSYL- VANIA.
Application filed January 15, 1913.
To all whomit may concern.
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. KnAUsKorr, a citizenof the United States, and a resident of Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Supports for Armature Cross-Connectors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to dynamo-electric machines, and it has special reference to cross-connectors for armature conductors and to supporting means for such connectors.
The object of my invention is to provide a compactly-nesting and readily constructed set of cross-connectors, which, together with suitable supporting means, shall form a permanentunit adapted for ready attachment to the frame of the machine. I Ieretofore, cross-connectors have been constructed and assembled in a very different way from that hereinafter described, and have not embodied a similar detachable feature.
According to my present invention, I provide a set of nesting cross-connectors severally. disposed on edge and permanently bound with wire upon one leg of a substantially Z-shaped ring member, the other leg of which fits beneath an integral longitudinally projecting flange upon the end-plates of the armature.
My invention may best be understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view, in end elevation, with parts broken away for clearness, of a portion of the armature of a dynamo-electric machine embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a view of a development with parts broken away, of a portion of the cylindrical surface of an armature employing my invention. Fig. 8 is a longitudinal sectional view of a portion of the armature shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and Fig. at is a view, with parts broken away,'of the details of the joints between the cross connectors and the armature conductors.
Referring to the drawings, an armature core 1 1s provided with an end-plate 2 hav ing an integral longitudinally-projecting flange 3. One leg of a detachable ring t, of substantially Z-shape section, engages a portion of the inner surface of the flange 3, being. suitably attached to the end-plate 2 at regular intervals.
The outer portion of the inside surfaceof Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 742,144.
flange 3, in conjunction with the other leg' of detachable ring 4t, forms a circumferentially disposed recess 5, the walls including which are suitably insulated. The cross connectors (3 are composed of strap conductors disposed on edge, and are appropriately fashioned for progressive connection to armature conductors 7 and for compact nesting within the circumferential recess 5. The connectors (3 severally comprise converging wing portions joined by a longitudinally extending loop 6 In actual practice, it is found more convenient and stable to lay the cross-connectors G edgewise upon the insulated leg of :the detachable ring L, securely bind the nesting wing portions and loops 6 with wire 8, and thus form a compact unit which is placed in engagement with the inside face the flange 8 and securely held in position, as hereinbefore described.
The suitably drilled ends 9 of the crossconnectors 6 are fastened to the corresponding armature conductors 7 for completing the proper circuits, as shown in Fig. 4c. In the particular machine described as embodying my invention, the connections of the cross-connectors (l and conductors 7, are made as follows:
The conductors T, forming a coil group 10, ha the usual rear end loop 11. The middle conductor 12 is provided with a secondary loop 13 flattened upon itself and projecting radially at right anglesto loop 11. The secondary loop 13 is suitably drilled for conncction with the appropriately bent ends 9 of the cross-connectors 6.
I do not wish to be restricted to the specific details hereinbefore set forth, but desire that only such limitations be imposed as are indicated in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
