Be it lmown that I, Ross M. G. PHiLLrrs, a citizen of the United States, residing at W est Haven, in the county or' New Haven and State oit Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Inclusive .Vzitcli-I-Telders; and do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a. full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in

My invention relates to an improvement in watch-holders designed in particular for use on automobiles, but applicable for use in a variety of other situations, the object being to produce a simple and convenient holder in which the entire watch is concealed except the face, whereby the watch is protected, and given the appearance of a miniature clock.

Idith these ends in view, my invention con-- sists in an inclusive watch-holder having certain details of construction as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

In carrying out my invention, I employ a removable cup-like metal shell 7 larger in diameter than the over-all diameter of the watch to be received by it, that is to say, larger in diameter than the watch with its pendant and bow. The said shell 7 has a deep flange 8 at a right angle to its face 9 which is formed with an opening 10 corresponding in diameter to the diameter of the face of the watch to be used, the edge of the opening 10 being slightly turned outward to form a centering-fiange 11 to receive the bezel of the watch. desired, however, the opening might be made concentric with the shell which would then have tol be larger than strictly necessary. To the inside of the :tace 9 oi" the shell I attach a watch retaining-wire 12 secured in place, as shown, bysolder 13 and comprising an inwardly extending retaining-loop 14- lior engagement with the back of the watch and a retaining-end 15 for yengagement with the pendant of the watch, the said loop 14 and end 15 being yielding and the end 15 having a bend 16 to fit over the pendant. The retaining-means 12 or its equivalent, positions the watch in the shell and holds its face against the flange 11 of the shell and in registration with the opening 10 aforesaid.

The liange 8 of the shell is provided with inwardly extending locking-studs or pins 17 located diametrically opposite each other, for engagement respectively with the tapering cam-like ends 18 of two yielding shellcentering and shell-locking segments 19 slightly smaller in curvature than the flange 8 of the shell, and secured at their butt ends to arms 20 turned upward from the ends of a strap 21 attached by screws 22 to a circular base-plate 23 having screw-holes 24 by means of which it is fastened to the cowlboard or other part of an automobile. The said segments 19 are separated from each other at their ends for the reception of the studs 17 which ultimately enter lockingnotches 25 in their cam-like ends 18.

rThe watch 26` having been positioned in the shell in front of the yielding loop 14 and end 15, the shell 7 is set over the segments 19 with its-locking-studs 17 registered with the spaces between the ends thereof. The shell now centered by the said segments, is rotated for the engagement of the studs 17 with the ends 18 thereof. As soon as the studs 17 ride into the notches 25, the shell is firmly looked to the base 23 .from which it can be detached only by reversely rotating it suiliciently to ride the studs 17 out of the notches 25' and bring them into registration with the spaces between the ends of the segments after which the shell may be removed.

Vhen the watch 26 is positioned within the shell, it is entirely inclosed therein eX- cept as to its face and presents the appearance of a small clock. My improved holder is thus an inclusive holder in so far as it erm takes in and protects the entire Watch eX- cept its face.

I claim 1. In a Watch-holder, the combination with a base, of a concentric shell smaller in diameter than the said base but larger in diameter than the over-all diameter .of the Watch and formed with an opening for the exposure of the Watch-face, yielding segments applied to the said base for centering the shell which fits over them, and means carried by the shell for engagement with the said segments, whereby the shell is removably attached to the base by its partial rotary movement With respect thereto.

2. In a Watcli-holder, the combination with a base, of a concentric shell smaller in diameter than the same but larger in diameter than the over-all diameter of the Watch and provided in its face with an opening for the exposure of the Watch-face, means for removably connecting the shell with the base, and means carried bythe shell for engaging with the back and pendant of the Watch for positioning the same.
