Be 1t known that. I, lfnaxcisya-ni lxowAL- siii, a subJect of the (lz-ar of Russia, residing 'at Philadelphia, in the county of lhiladelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new" and useful Improvements in Propellers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in propellers.
The primary obect of the invention is the provision of a propeller adapted for employment with either marinek propulsion or aerial craft, the same being so arranged as to be easily repaired in the event that any portion thereof becomes damaged or destroyed.
A further object of thedevice is the pro- 'vision of a propeller adapted for exerting a direct longitudinal movement to the member supplied thereby, this being accomplished by an arrangen'ient of oppositely-positioned helical blade sections, each of the latter being formed of removable plates readily replaced or repaired as may be required.
With these general objects in View and others that will appear, as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, -illustrated in the aecompanying drawings, and then claimed.

The present `propeller broadly consists of a tubjllar hub 10 and oppositelyairrangtal sepznateblades ll cach `being of the forni nl substantially one-halfof a helix, it being noted that the adjacent edges of the said -forming a binder for the blades are positioned in planes separated from each other. Each of the blades 11 is formed of a plurality of tapered plates 12 having their contacted inner ends provided with oppositely .projecting base flanges 13.
'A mounting guide 11 is provided for the plates 12 being in the form of a strip substantially U-shaped in cross-section helica'lly secured to the outer face of the hub 10 between the opposite ends thereof. One of the said guide strips 11 is preferably arranged at substantially opposite sides of the hub 1t) into which guides, the bases 13 of the plates 12 are slidably fed during the assembling ofthe blades. Locking bolts 15 are carried by inwardly-extending lianges 16 of the guide strips 15 adapted for engaging the plate bases 13 having retaining plates in position with the said plates having their edges in Contact with each other, it being'nnderstood that the flanges 16 of the guide strips overlic the plate portions 123.
Dove-tailed grooves 1T are provided in the curved outer enlarged ends or peripheral portions 1S of the plates 12 forming a continuous groove throughout the periphery of the blades when the plates are assembled. A locking strip 19 having a dove-tailed tongue 2O adapted to be slidably positioned within the blade grooves 1T is provided plates which make up the separate blades. Hold-fast devices, such as screws 21 may be secured through the strip 15) engaging within plates 12 as illustrated in Fig. 5 of the drawing.
From this detailed description ot' the invention1r it will be seen that a serviceable propeller is arranged in which the blades are formed of a plurality of plates 1L) detachably connected together by the binding strips 19 while each plate is removably locked to one of the guide strips ll, l v removing the locking strip 1l) slidably [rom the outer edges of the plates 1.2, thevsaid plates may be removed from the guide strips ll upon releasing the locking -bolts l5.

A propeller comprising a cylindrical hub, substantially Ushaped semi-helical guide strips arranged upon opposite sides of the hub connecting the opposite ends thereof, a plurality of plates having base portionsv sldably arranged Within the Said 10 'removable locking strip peripherally mounted upon said plates, the said guide strips and plates carried thereby ying in separate 15 planes longitudinally of the hub.
