FARM FENCE.

WIMP I l 5y a: Pd? 7%??? PETRO TATARYN, OF CHESTER, PENNSYLVANIA.
FARM-FENCE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 5, 1917..
Application filed March 2, 1917. Serial No. 151,933.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Pn'rno TATARYN, a subject of the Emperor of Austria, resident of Chester, county of Chester, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Farm-Fences, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in farm fences, and particularly to types known as portable and adjustable.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a fence which by means of its sectional construction may be moved to inclose such areas as are desired, each of the sections being independently adjustable as to length and also in height.
This and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combinationof parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a complete section of the same.
Fig. 2 is a fragmental side elevational view showing the bottom portion of one of the posts or supports.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken through one of the posts, and
Fig. 4 is a front side elevational view of the same.
The fence is composed of a plurality of post elements 10, the lower end of which is set in the ground a short distance so as to steady the same, while level with the surface of the ground are transverse bars 11 extending equally outward upon each of the four sides of the post and having at their ends braces 12 angularly disposed and attached to the posts midway in their height.
Passing transversely through the post 10 are a plurality of pairs of holes 14: in which may be secured bolts 15 having an angularly turned end 16 between which and the collar 17 is a thin sleeve or ring 18 so that as the nut 19 is turned, drawing the bolt into rigid engagement with the post, a definite space is provided between the upturned end 16 and the face of the post 10 to receive the fence rails 20, slots 21 being provided near their adjacent ends suited to pass freely over the sleeves 18.
Thus each of the rails 20 may be removed from engagement with the post or arranged sition by the bolts28 as clearly indicated in Fig. 1.
At the adjacent ends of the rails 20 and 25 are secured cleats 30 provided with a plurality of apertures 31 receivable of the pins 32 so that the pins permit of moving the elements 20 longitudinally with respect to the rails 25, thereby extending or contracting the spaces between the posts 10 as may be desired.
It will be further evident from the construction shown that the fence is readily dismembered and that the central section may be so turned with relation to the longitudinally disposed rails shown bolted to it that the whole may be packed very compactly within a small space when not actually required in use, thus providing a sectional portable fence having adjustable elements which may be readily transported and erected at desired points.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a fence of the class described, the combination with posts having transverse elements rigidly attached at the lower end and containing a plurality of paired openings passing transversely therethrough, bolts engageable in said openings, said bolts having a hooked outer end, a sleeve and washer on said bolts whereby they are permitted to be drawn tightly against the base of said post, longitudinally disposed main rails having slots extending from their lower side toward their center adjacent to one end thereof, connecting rails engaging with said main rails disposable between pairs, cleats combined with said main and connecting rails whereby the same may be held in alinement, and bars disposed centrally between said posts to which said connecting rails are attached.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature this 15 day of February, 1917.
PETRO TATARYN.
