T all /iUwf/n t may concern.'
Be it known that LRIGHARD OZNnAL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Albany, inthe countyof Bryan and State"- have invented certain useful of Oklahoma, Improvements in Conveying Mechanisms, of
specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to improvements in conveying mechanisms, and more particularly to that ltype of conveyer for use in connection with washing dishes, one object of the invention being the provision of a conveying mechanism which will Convey dishes and the like and deposit them, without breakage, into the washing receptacle, there being a novel mechanism for receiving the dishes and coperating with the end of the frame to'form an inclined chute to assist in delivering the dishes without permitting the same to fall.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a device of this character which may be operated by hand or by power, and which is simple, durable and inexpensive in construction and thoroughly efficient and practical in use.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation taken from the operating side of the complete device.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2. i
Fig. 4 is a detail view of one of the plate carrying members.
Referring to the drawings, the numerals 5 and 6 designate the side walls of the frame, the latter being provided with the opening 7 the greater part of the length thereof.
Connecting the two sides together are the top and bottom plates S and 9, the top plate 8 being provided withthe inclined ends 10 and 10 upon the upper portion thereof, while the bottom plate is provided with the inclined portions 11 and 12 upon the top or inner side thereof. i
It will also be noted that at one end of bottom 9 are the parallel guides 13, the purpose of which will presently appear.
The two shaftsr 14 and 15 are journaled at the respective ends of the side walls, the shaft 14 being the drive shaft and having connected thereto the operating handle 16, which may, however, be a drive-pulley or Specification of Iietters Patent.
Patented May 22, 1917. 916. r serialnm11144.
other means for operating the present device byhand or power.
f Each shaft is provided with two sprockets 17 and 18 respectively and has passed thereover the two sprocket chains 19. These chains, as here shown, have connected thereto at equally distant points the retaining plates or strips 20, each one of which is provided with the journaling sleeve 21 for the reception of the shaft or pin 22. i
This shaft or pin 22 receives the sleeves 23 of the flexible dish carrying member 24. Each of the members 2 4 here shown are composed of four sections, the section 25 being the inner section, and the section 26 being` the outer section, while the sections 27 and 28 are theftwo inner sections, the
wmp.,
inner sections being identical in construction.
The section 25 is provided with the hinging sleeves 29 for coperating with the hinging sleeves 30 of the section 27, a pin 31 being provided to connect the sleeves together'.
The sections 27 and 2S are provided upon each ofthe edges with hinging sleeves as shown, while the section 26 is provided upon-one'edge only. y
It will be noted that the lower train of the conveyer runs over the upper surface of the bottom 9, and lthat the dishes may be inserted through the opening 7 to be deposited gently betweenfthe guides 13 as the free end 26 of one of the conveyers leaves the incline 12.
Or, it may be used by placing the dishes upon the conveyer 24 at the top 8 so that the free end 26 of the conveyer will coperate with the inclined end 10 or 10', depending upon `.the movement of the conveyer and thus gradually .forming an inclined chute that 'will permit the dishes to be directed into the receiving receptacle.
What I claim as new is l 1. A dish conveyer comprising two side walls, one v of which is provided withfa dish introducing opening, top and bottom plates connected to the side walls, sprocket carrying shafts journaled in the opposite ends of the side walls, two sprocket chains trained around said shafts and passing above the bottom between the side walls and over the top wall, and a plurality of flexible conveying members connected to the sprocket chains, each of said conveying members consisting of a plurality of liexibly connected plates, one oi' said plates being hingedly connected to the sprocket chains with the eX- treme section free.
2. A dish conveyer comprising two side walls, one of which is provided with a dish introducing opening, top and bottom plates connected to the side walls, sprocket carrying shafts jouinaled in the opposite ends of the side walls, two sprocket chains trained around said shafts and passing above the bottom between theside walls and over the Copies of this patent may be obtained for top wall, ay plurality of flexible conveying members connected to the sprocket chains, each of said conveying members consisting of a retaining plate connecting the Chains and having a hinging member, and a plurality of hingedly connected sections, the inner member of which is provided with a hinging membei' for coperation with the hinging` member of the plate.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
