Be it known that I, JOHN A. STONE, a

citizen o1 the United States, residing at" Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corn-Huskers, of which the following' is a full, clear, and eX- act specification. l

y My invention relates to corn huskers, and in `particular to an improved forni of coacting huslingrolls operative` to remove the husks from the ears as they become engaged thereby. y y Y The object of the invention is to provide a form of coacting husking rolls that may be sufficiently aggressive in their function to remove the husks from the ears of corn without engaging with the kernels to remo-ve i them from the cob and thus causing a result,-

Referring to the drawings, wherein the same reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views l and 2 represent cylindrical shafts having husking rolls 3 and 4, respectively, secured thereon, the shafts being driven in opposite directions by any desired means. The rolls are provided with collar portions 5 at their op- 7 rposite ends that engage with each other in a manner preventing the operative portions of the rolls from contacting with each other in the operation of the machine. The bodies of the opposing rolls are providedwithdiametrically opposed and longitudinally disposed ribs 6, parallel and concentric with their axes, the intervening space between theribs being cylindrical in form and concentric with the aXis of the roll, and 7 represents oppositely disposed spirally arranged ribs in parallel relation, leading rearward in the direction of rotation of the rolls and having their opposite ends terminatingbe- Specification of Letters latent.

A In operation the rolls are given a rotative movement in opposite directions, as shown by the arrows in llig.v 3, the teeth 9 and the husking pegs .l2 loosening the husksso that theyare engagedby the peripheries of the longitudinal ribs 6 and removed from the ears.

"Although I have herein specifically described one embodiment of .my invention, .it is to beunderstood that the form shown is of illustration and that my invention may be embodied in various other forms without departing from its spirit.

Vhat I claim as my invention and desire p to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. A huslring roll having spaced longithereon, oi" parallel spirally arranged toothed rib members between said longitudinally extending rib members, the longitudinally extending rib members projecting above said spiral rib members whereby the former may exert a positive thrust upon an ear of corn at denite intervals. n

2. A pair of coacting corn husking rolls rotatable in opposite directions having continuous longitudinally arranged' coacting parallel rib members forming a part of each roll, and coperating oppositely disposed spirally arranged ribs between and in contact with said parallel rib members on each of said' rolls.

3. A pair ,of coacting corn husking rolls rotatable in opposite directions having longitudinally arranged coacting parallel rib members forming part of each roll, and oppositely disposed spirally arranged rib members on each of said rolls leading rearward in the direction of rotation of the rolls and provided with husk engaging teeth upon their peripheries.

4. A pair of coacting corn husking rolls rotatable in opposite directions having longitudinally arranged coacting parallel rib members forming part of each roll, and

longitudinally arranged coacting parallel rib members forming part of each roll, oppositely disposed spirally arranged rib members leading rearward in the direction of rotation of the rolls andl having husk engaging teeth upon their peripheries,-the

spirally arranged ribs being of less radii than those arranged longitudinally, and spaced husk engaging pegs disposed between the longitudinal ribs upon one of the rolls and extending beyond their peripheries Ainto the channels between the spirally arranged ribs upon the opposing roll.

6. A pair of coactingcorn husking rolls rotatable in opposite directions having longitudinally arranged coacting parallel rib members formingpart of each roll, oppositely disposed spirally arranged rib members leading rearward in the direction of rotation of the rolls and having husk engaging teeth upon their peripheries, the spirally arranged ribs being of less radii than those arranged longitudinally, and spaced husk engaging pegs disposed between the longitudinal ribs upon one of said rolls in a parallel line therewith and extending beyond their peripheries into the channels between the spirally arranged ribs upon the opposing roll.

7. A pair of coacting corn huskingrolls rotatable in opposite directions having longitudinally arranged coacting parallel rib members forming partof each roll, oppositely f dis-posed spirally arranged rib members leading rearward in the direction of rotation of the rolls and having husk engaging teeth upon their peripheries, the spirally arranged ribs being of less radii than those arranged longitudinally, and spaced husk engaging pegs disposed adjacent the front side of one of said ribs in the direction of rotation oit' the roll, in a line parallel therewith and eXtendin beyond their peripheries into the channe s between the spirallyv arranged ribs upon the opposing roll.
