Description

m.) wlLLlAM Moms.

UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN RAILWAY-A-FROGS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,634, dated January 9, 1872.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM MoRRIs, of the town of Harrison, Hudson county, New Jersey, have invented certain Improvements in Railroad-Frogs, of which the following, in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a specification, and in which- Figurel is a top plan view. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a transverse seetion taken at A B. Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken at G. D. Fig. 5 is a transverse section taken at E F. l
My invention consists in having a block, A, of wood or metal inserted between the two rails b and c, so that the point of the two rails D and E may be insertedinto it, substantially as shown in the drawing. The block A is secured by means of bolts :which pass entirely through the said b1ock,and the two rails b and c. By this means the said rails are very materially strengthened, as is also the point of the two rails, D and E, that intersect and are inserted into the block A. VI also insert similar blocks B and Oat the points 0 o Where the rails meet. These blocks are also secured in the same manner as the block A, and are clearly shown in the drawing. y
Thus it will be seen thatall the parts are iirmly held in position, and are not liable to be thrown out of place by the locomotive and cars when passing over the rails.
What I claim as new, and Adesire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The wedge-shaped block O arranged at the joint and confined between the split ends D E of the pointed rail and secured in place by transverse bolts, in combination with the Wedgeshaped block B confined between the rails at the joint, all as set forth and shown.
WILLIAM MORRIS.
