IMPROVEMENT IN MILK-COOLERS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent N o. 122,616, dated January 9, 1872.
To all whom t may concern:
Beit knownthat I, GoRNnLrUs H. LATHAM, of Randolph, in the county of Gattaraugus and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk- Cooler; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawing and to theletters of reference marked thereon making a part of this speciication. The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a milkcool er,7 as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its con struction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a plan view, and Fig. 2 a side view of my milk-cooler. Figs. 3 and 4 are sections of the milk-pans and coolers, and Fig. 5 is a view of a device on the bench whereby the milkpans may be tipped to be emptied.
A represents a bench or stand, of any suitable dimensions, provided in the center with an upright standard, B. On the bench A is laid a circular plate, C, having a central tube, D, which fits over the center standard B. On this plate and bench are placed the milk-pans E E and E E.
I have represented two difterent kinds of pans, either of which may be used.
The pans E E are each provided with a double bottom, Gr, from which tubes a a lead p cooler, H, said cooler being in the shape of a cylinder, with circular iiange b at the bottom, which is passed under catches e c attached to the bottom of the pan, thus fastening the lcooler in its place. In the cooler is a central partition, d, dividing it into two compartments, said partition having an opening, f, at the lower end.
The water is admitted from the top into one of these compartments, passes through the opening f into the other, and at the top hereof is an outlet, h, from which the water is conducted into the cooler of the next pan, and so on.
The coolers ofthe various pans should be oi' different heights, to allow thewater to pass from one to the other. The coolers may readily be removed for the purpose of cleaning them and the pans.
On top of the standard or post B is placed a water-reservoir, I, from which a ilexible pipe, J, leads to the pan through which the Water is to pass first. This reservoir is so arranged that it can turn around on the post, and thus allow it to be connected with either one of the pans separately. On one side of the frame is a strip, K, pivoted at one end, as shown in Fig. 5, so that it can be turned outward to allow the pan to be tipped and .the milk emptied, each pan having for this purpose a spout, The disk C may be turned around the post, so as to bring either one of the pans to the strip K.
The advantages of thus arranging and constructing the milk-pans all placed on a level are apparent to anybody acquainted with dai- .4
ries. In some cases, Where the central coolers H H are used, these coolers may be of the same height; but then the stand Will have to be provided with steps so as to place the pans on diiierent levels.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

2. The bench or stand A provided with pivoted strip K, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
