y ANCHOR-STRIP FOR yPAVING-:BLOCKS.
'application mea august 16,' 1915. serial No. 45,722.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, GEORGE W. WARMOTH, a citizen ofthe United States, and a resident of Indianapolis, county of Marion, and
State vof Indiana, have invented a certain .new and useful Anchor-Strip for Paving- Blocks; and Ldo hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters refer to like parts.
The object of this invention is to provide an anchor strip for pavingblocks which,
is adapted to be used between street railway tracks or adjacent thereto. The 'anchor plate is composed of a thin metal strip havf ing its ends turned so as to fit snuglybetween the rails. cold punched holes leaving a jagged surface which may be forced into paving blocks so that they are gripped thereby and heldmin place. The anchor'strip is placed between each row of blocks so that it engages the blocks on either side and retains them in position. when used with paving bricks by providing a hole in theanchor through which a rod passed through a simi- The mai-n object of this invention is to overcome the turning up of paving blocks between the vadjacent street railway tracks, thereby avoiding the necessity of relaying them rom time to time. Also by. providing a similar anchor strip on the outside of the rails and adjacent the outside of the being displaced.
The lfull nature of understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and rails are prevented from claims.
ln the drawings, showing the paving blocks between the tracks. 2,-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the anchor'plate. Fig. 4 is a cross section on the line 4.-4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a modified View showing the anchor plate adapted to be used with bricks.

' chor strip 12 having its ends bent at right angles so as to form flanges 13 and adapted to lit snugly against thewebs of the rails.
' In the drawlngs holes 14 are shown which are cold punched so as to leave jagged edges and which are so arranged that the jagged edges of every other hole protrude from one side of the anchor strip, while those of every other hole protrude on the other side thereof. ln kaddition to said holes there are angular cuts made in the metal with the points bent at right-angles thereto to form thel projections 15. However, this invention is not lre.
stricted to this means of grippirlgthe blocks,
anchor strip is placed adjacent to the row ofu blocks. and another row placed in position on the other side of said strip. The blocks are then hammered or clamped together against said stripso that the points 15 and the jagged edges of the holes 14 will enter the blocks and hold (them rmly. This..
process is continued in filling along the whole length of the track. It then becomes impossible for the blocks to escape from their position and it will be impossible for them to escape from place because of their expansion andthe heavy traiiic over them.
This samel result may be accomplished when bricks are used by providing a hole 18 in the anchor strip and a similar hole 19 in the brick throughiwhich a rod or bar 20 vof may be inserted so as to hold the bricks in position.
For preventing the bricks on the outside of the tracks and adjacent thereto from being displaced there'is a plate 22 adapted to grip the bloc s in the same manner as the plate 112. This plate tapers outwardly and has means 23 on the endthereof for anchoring it to the foundation.
The invention claimed is:
1. In the combination with street railw y of paving blocks laid between said tracks, a metal strip between each row of said blocks, means for engaging said blocks vand holding them' in their proper position,
