' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, STEPHEN J. BACH- ARDY and JAMES Kiss, citizens of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in -Money-Paying Attachments for Cash-Registers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to the mechanicalpaying out of money under selective manual control, andcomprises a machine for the above purpose designed with a special view to being combined with a cash register.
An essential and important feature of the invention resides in the provision of a paying mechanism substantially complete in itself so-that-it is adapted to be placed in proper association with a cash register already inuse for conjoint-action under the controliof the cash register instrumentalities. I I V More specifically speaking the present invention embodies a drawer or till on which the controlling and paying out instrumentalities of the invention are wholly mounted and arranged, whereby to permit of removing the ordinary cash drawer of conventional types of cash registers, and the substitution of the money paying cash drawer of the invention so that the cash register will be operable for all the purposes and with all of the advantages incident to the employment of the special payingout instrumentalities of the invention.
While the present invention, according to the organization of parts to be fully set forth herein, represents the incorporation of a special money handling mechanism in a drawer structure susceptible of substitution for the ordinary drawer of a cash register, we do not wish to be limited to this particular adaptation of the invention because the money handling means may be carried by a frame not particularly designed tosperform the function of a drawer, but capable of operation and movement such as required in order to efiectuate the proper controlling of the money handling instrumentalities. We believe it to be broadly new in the art of money handling machines to provide such a machine substantially complete-in itself.
adapted to be appliedto a cash register for operation in connection with the latter. In addition to the foregoing, in so far as we are advised it has never been'before proposed in the arts-related to our present invention to utilize an attachment for cash registers and similar machines wherein a cash drawer or till is employed which attachment is capable of being placed into cooperative functioning with respect to the register machine by the mere substitution of the attachment for the draweror till. In determining the scope of our present invention, therefore, notwithstanding that certain details of the actual coin handling mechanism proposed to be used by us have been and are necessarily quite commonly employed for money paying machines, broad novelty is claimed for the features of construction and adaptations of the invention above generally pointed out. I
In the practical embodiment of the present invention it will of course be understood that the same may not only be employed by way of being applied to cash registers in use, but such registers may be equipped with a drawer unit constructed in accordance with the invention, when the registers are originally marketed. In addition to the foregoing moreover, it is contemplated that the paying machine of the invention, being a substantially complete structure in itself, may be used advantageously entirely independent of any combination thereof with cash registering machines as will more fully appear upon reference to the following dotail description of the construction and adaptations of the invention, in connection with the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a well known type of cash register equipped with a paying machine drawer designed in accordance with the invention.

Referring especially to Fig. 1, it will be observed that the paying mechanism of this invention is incorporated in the construction of the drawer or till of the cash register A which register may be of any well known type. The paying mechanism includes as the customary essential instrumentalities suitable coin holders 1 in which the coins may be arranged in stacks, there being provided'intermediate the coin holders and suitable manipulative keys 2, selecting mechanism such that the operator by de pressing a certain key may predetermine the amount of money paid out in coinage. It is preferred, and indeed necessary, that the paying mechanism be constructed as compactly as possible in order that the main space in the drawer 3, which constitutes virtually the frame of the paying machine of the invention, may be divided into compartments 4 in which bills of various denominations are disposed in suitable piles, and compartments 5 in which an additional supply of coins for replenishing the holders 1 may also be contained. It is preferred that the compartments 4 and 5 shall be provided in a tray 6, shown best in Figs. 1, 3 and 4, said tray being of light metallic construction and removably fitted into the general space of the drawer 3 in such a manner as to seat over and house the various parts of the paying out mechanism.
It is contemplated in that adaptation of the invention wherein the paying mechanism is combined with a cash register that the drawer 3 forming the frame of the paying machine shall be constructed of substantially the same size as the ordinary cash drawer of the conventional type of register with which the paying mechanism is to be used, and shall be constructed so that the drawer will be released by the operation of the regular release key 7 of the register as shown in Fig. 6. The release key 7 is adapted to directly operate the locking pawl 8 which engages the toothed wheel 9 by which the drawer 3 is locked in closed position, said toothed wheel 9 engaging the flanged plate 10 on the rear end of the drawer.
As indicative of the cooperation between the paying out instrumentalities and the cash register mechanism it may be noted, as will be more fully presented hereinafter, that while the drawer 3 is locked in its closed position it is impracticable for any money to be paid out by the paying mechanism of the invention. Only after the release of the drawer incident to the operation of the regular sales registering keys of-the register A will the ejecting devices perform their function of ejecting the coin predetermined by the operation of the paying keys 2. Under these conditions the clerk operating the cash register and paying out mechanism is compelled to complete the sales registration in order to avail himself of any desired operation of the paying out mechanism, though the construction is such that the cash register is susceptible of being used as ordinarily, without any action of the money paying devices whatever.
We have not illustrated any details of construction of the cash register with which our invention is particularly adapted to be associated because saidregister may be of any conventional type at present in use. In practice we have adapted our invention, however, to a common construction of what is known as the National cash register, as will be apparent upon reference to that portion of the description found hereinafter which is devoted to thefew details of such register illustrated in the drawings and necessarily employed to indicate the operative functioning of the register and the paying out mechanism of this invention.
Manipulative selector mechanism.
Referring now to Figs. 2 to 5 inclusive especially, it will be observed that the paying keys 2 are arranged in upper and lowerrows and the number of these keys is immaterial to the invention as they will be supplied in practice in accordance with the desired capacity of the machine so far as its paying out action is concerned. The keys 2 are mounted upon levers 11 pendent from the shaft 12 as an axis, each lever 11 having a. locking hook 13 projecting inwardly therefrom, and the various locking hooks being in transverse alinement as seen in Fig. 4, whereby to be readily engaged by the looking plate 14: which extends transversely of the drawer 3 spaced from the inner edges of the key levers 11. The main locking plate lat is supported by the pintle rod 15 and the cooperation between the parts 13 and 14 is such that in the event of depressing a key through error, the depression of the correct key will cause its hook 18 to raise the locking plate 14 from engagement with the erroneously pressed key lever hook 13, permitting restoration of the latter. In other words, a flexible keyboard with the usual advantages is obtained by the above described construction.
The several key levers 11 operable by the keys 2 directly coact with selector plates 16, seen best in Figs. 1 and 7, said plates being preferably mounted to slide in the drawer 3 upon suitable guides 17 engaging the plates at their opposite lateral extremities and intermediate their ends. The plates 16 are arranged in pairs, one plate of each pair resting on the other and the guides 17 each have a guide groove for the adjacent portions of each pair of plates, the friction between which is not sufiicient to interfere with their freedom of movement. In addition to the guide plates 17 for guiding the selector plates 16, the said plates are proviced with slots 18 through which guide posts 19 pass, true inward and outward movement of the selector plates being thus controlled without liability of lateral play. Each selector plate has a rearward guide extension 16 in which one of the slots 18 isformed and in addition to this each plate has an actuating arm 20 at its left hand end and rearwardly extending therefrom for cooperation with a spring 21, the normal tendency of which is to force the selector plate to the limit of its outward movement. The selector plates are formed at portions adjacent to the keys with projections 2:2 arranged with a special view to engagement with certain of the key levers 11. There will be provided a selector plate 16 for each of the coin holders 1 which in the present instance are provided one for nickels, two for dimes, one for quarters, and one for fifty-cent pieces. By the use of two ejectors for the nickel, quarter and fifty-cent coin holders, said ejectors operable one or both at a time, it is obvious that one or two coins may be paid out of each of said receptacles according to the selection of the said ejectors for single or double coin ejection, through the cooperation of the selector plates 16. Since this is a very common expedient in the art it is not believed necessary to describe this feature of the invention in detail, the invention residing more particularly in broader phases of construction and cotiperation of parts. It suffices therefore that it be understood that upon depression of the sixty-five cent key 2 of the keyboard the key lever 11 for said key will be locked depressed inward and will engage a projection 22 of the selector plate 16 for quarters, and also a projection 22 of the selector plate 16 for dimes, whereupon in the later operation of the machine the quarter and dime ejectors will be operated to expel from the machine thirty-five cents, the difference between sixty-five cents and one dollar. In other words, the paying out operation is intended to work on the Well known basis of mechanical selection involving the paying out by the ejectors of the difference between the amount represented on the key in numbers and the amount of one dollar, which is the maximum which the present machine is adapted to eject in coinage, though a larger capacity for ejection might be provided. Should it be desired, however, the selector mechanism may be readily adapted so that upon operation of a key 2 the selector plates 16 would select ejectors to pay out the amount represented on the face of the key, both methods of selection being commonly employed in the art.-
The ejector mechanism.
The ejector mechanism (see Figs. 2, 3 and 7) includes the ejectors proper, designated 23, the front ends of which are curved to conform with the peripheries of the coins to be ejected, each ejector having a lug 2 1 between which and a fixed portion of the casing structure is interposed a coil spring normally tending to hold the ejector at the rearward limit of its movement, and return it to such position after operation, in which operation the ejector enters the coin holder 1 associated therewith and forces the lowermost coin, or the two lowermost coins, in double ejection, oif of the bottom of the holder onto the display portion 26 of the chute 27, said chute being hinged at 28 at its rear edge portion. The chute 27, seen best in 1, 2 and 5, tapers toward its outer end so that the coins ejected pass to a common point of delivery. In rear of the ejectors 23 are the ejector actuators 29 the same consisting of plates pivoted at 80 to the actuating bar 31, the latter being disposed transversely of the drawer 3. Beneath the ejector actuators 29 are disposed lifting levers S2 of bell crank form mounted on the common axis 33. One arm of each lever 82 is interlocked with a cooperating selector plate 16 by engaging in an opening 20 of the arm 20 of the latter. lhe other arm of the lever is normally approximately hori zontal and is adapted to be shifted upward on inward movement of the selector plate 16 whereby to raise the coacting ejector actuator 2'9 so that the front end of the latter is alined with the rear end of the adjacent ejector 23. the actuator or actuators 29 by the bar 31 those ejector-s whose actuators 29 have been elevated in the above manner, will be forced outward and coins acted on by the ejectors ejected from the holders 1.
Main operating means for ejectors.
As seen best in Figs. 2 and 3, the actuat- 1ng bar 31 has the rearwardly extending arm 34 encircled by the spring 35 hearing out- Upon subsequent movement of wardly at one end against the member 31 and at its rear end bearing against the bracket 36 through which and the rear end of the drawer 3 the member 34: passes. A main operating lever 37 is pivoted at 38 to the bottom of the drawer 3 and one end of the lever is connected with the arm 3-1, the opposite end of the lever being connected with an operating member 39 pivoted thereto at 40. The operating member 39 also passes through the rear end of the drawer 3 and is adapted at its rear extremity to abut with the rear wall of the cash register casing. At its front end the member 39 is connected by a spring 411 with the operating lever 37. It is the engagement of the operating member 39 with the rear wall of the register casing which actuates the ejector actuating bar 31 and consequently the ejectors themselves in a manner which will now be fully presented.
General operation of machine.
hen the drawer 3 is locked in closed position. in the cash register A the parts are positioned as seen in Fig. 2. Should it now be desired to pay out a certain amount of money by the use 01 the paying mechanism the operator will depress one of the keys 2 controlling the desired amount, whereupon said key through actuation of its associated selector plate or plates 16 will cause movement of one or more of the levers 32 and elevation of corresponding ejector actuators 29 so that the latter are adjusted to operate the associated ejectors 23. This done the operator will then register up on the cash register the amount of the sale, by operating the required keys 7, or it there is no sale he will operate the no-sale key, whereupon the drawer 3 will be released or unlocked and free to open. The opening movement of the drawer is effected by the spring 35 which is of sufiicient power to force the operating member 39 of the actuating lever 37 rearward as soon as the drawer is unlocked. The operating member 39 is therefore practically speaking a pusher for forcing the drawer 3 outward to open position and the relative movement of the part 37 with respect to the drawer 3 not only pushes the drawer to open position but forces the ejector actuating bar 31 outward or toward the front of the drawer. Those of the ejector actuators 29 which have been adjusted by the keys 2 and selectors 16 will on the said movement of the bar 31 cause ejecting movement of their ejectors 23 and coins of the predetermined amount will be deposited upon the display portion 26 of the delivery chute 27. The display portion of the delivery chute 27 is covered by glass or other transparent material and the operator is able to examine therefore the amount of coin ejected from the receptacles by way of insuring the correctness of the delivery, after which by merely pressing downward upon the chute 27 the latter will be inclined and the coins will slide into the operators hand or other place of deposit. The chute 27 is depressible upon its hinge or pivot 28 and springs 26 are used to restore the chute to normal position and hold it there. The money paying operation having been completed the operator will simply force the drawer 3 inward to its closed position with the customary mode of operation employed for cash registers and the tilting of the lever 37 incident to the engagement of the pusher 39 with the rear wall of the register will withdraw the ejector actuating bar 31 to its normal position as shown in Fig. 2 and the several ejectors 23 will be restored also by their springs 25.
A peculiar cooperation of parts is employed in order to prevent the operation of the keys 2 of the paying out mechanism except when the drawer 3 is in closed position. As seen in Fig. 3 the arrangement of the ejector actuators 29 is such that when the bar 31 is in its normal position of said figure the members may be raised into operative positions. This condition exists necessarily owing to the adjustment of the drawer 3 maintaining the pusher 39 and lever system attached thereto in the position of Fig. 2. Then the drawer 3 is open the keys 2 cannot be depressed because the actuators 29 that have not already been adjusted or raised to operate will be disposed beneath their ejectors 23 and locked against upward movement to an operative position, owing to being overlapped by said ejectors.
Key release mechanism.
It is obvious that at the conclusion of a paying out operation as above described it is necessary that any depressed key 2 be restored also to normal. This is accomplished by means of a release rod 12 attached to one end of the ejector actuating bar 31 as seen at 13 in Fig. 2. The front end of the release bar 12 enters the shallow casing in which the key levers 11 are mounted and is adapted to engage a cam 1d on the adjacent end of the key locking plate 141. Thus as the bar 31 moves outward to cause the ejection of coins in the manner described, the release rod 12 is likewise moved therewith and at a predetermined moment lifts the locking plate 14; by coiiperation with the cam 1 1 and disengages said plate from the hook 13 of the depressed key, thereby restoring the latter.
It is contemplated in respect to the paying mechanism to employ a 25 elimination key 2, seen best in Fig. 2. The purpose of this key 2 is to cut out the payment of a quarter where the required change to be delivered by the change paying mechanism necessitates such operation. The paying out instrumentalities being ordinarily so constructed as to pay out the difference between the amount represented by a certain key and one dollar, should the amount tendered by a purchaser be seventy-five cents it is obvious that by merely pressing the cut-out or elimination key 2 the change given will be the proper amount since under such conditions the twenty-five cent payment means is rendered inoperative. The mechanism for the key 2 operates in a very simple manner and is shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 9 especially. The 25 selector plate 16 co'ciperates, as do all of the other plates 16, with one of the lifting levers 32, but its lifting lever has an extension 32 seen in Fig. 2 and in Fig. 3. The 25 ejector controlling lever 32 with the extension 82 is therefore adapted to raise the coacting actuator 29 a greater distance than any of the other levers 32 are able to raise their corresponding actuators. Thus it is that when the 25 ejector actuator 29 is set by any one of the keys 2 through an initial movement of the 25 selector plate 16, said actuator is lifted to the plane of the 25 ejector 23 ready to operate the same. Should the elimination key 2, however, be depressed after the setting of the 25 actuator 29, an additional movement is imparted to the 25 selector plate 16, at which time the extension 32 of the lever 32 comes into play and raises said actuator 29 to a point above the rear end of the 25 ejector. When the Parts are adjusted as above described, on the opening of the drawer and the movement of the va rious ejector actuators 29 set to pay out the predetermined sum of money, the 25 ejector actuator 29 is elevated sufiiciently so as to be inoperative and the 25 payment is cut out in this manner.
IVhen the key 2 is depressed it is locked in depressed position by a locking dog 46 mounted coaXially with the locking plate 14 (see Fig. 9). A pin 47 projects from the cam 14 of the plate 14 and extends beneath the dog &6 in such a manner that when the release rod 42 engages the cam 14 and raises the plate 14, the pin 47 will likewise raise the dog 46 and the key 2 will thus be released simultaneously with the release of any depressed key 2. The dog 46 being movable independently of the plate 14 permits of locking of the key 2 without the operation of the latter disturbing the locking plate 14: which will of course have been previously actuated to lock the operated key 2, the result of the operation of whichis modified by the depression of the cut out 2 .lWVhen the keys 2 and 2 are released through the operation of the rod 42, springs 2 in rear of the key levers 11 restore the keys to their normal positions. In their movement the key levers 11 are guided not only by the extensions 11 which carry the key buttons, operating through the front of the drawer but the lower extremities of the levers 11 operate in slots in the bottom portion of the drawer, seen in Figs. 4 and 8.
Key markings.
The markings of the paying out keys 2 are peculiar, as seen in Fig. 11. Said keys are provided with large upper numbers indicative of the amount of sale. The keys are also supplied with smaller numbers representing the amount of change which will be paid out, or in other words, the difference in money between one dollar and the amount represented by the large number on the key as first referred to above. Thus if the sale is twenty cents the key 2 marked with the large number 20 will be depressed and said key on its face in smaller figures has the number 80 indicative of the change which the operator should see ejected on the display portion 26 of the delivery chute 27.
In regard to the modification of the invention shown in Fig. 10 it will be noted that the paying out mechanism is constructed identically the same as that hercinbefore described, being assembled and supported by a drawer or till adapted to operate in a suitable casing B. Said casing B has mounted thereon a suitable drawer releasing lever or key 4:5 which actuates unlocking mechanism substantially the same as illustrated in Fig. 6 of the drawings. In this adaptation of the invention of course the cash registering instrumentalities are dispensed with and the machine is designed for money paying solely and is susceptible of having the drawer locked closed so that when not in use access may not be had to the contents of the drawer nor can the machine be operated in any way to perform its regular functions.
It is to be understood that various modifications in the details of the mechanism as hereinbefore presented are contemplated within the purview of the invention as we do not wish to be limited to said details save only as required in accordance with the scope of the appended claims. If desired registering mechanism may be associated with the paying out instrumentalities so that amounts represented by operation of the keys 2 may be registered permanently by printing means, or may be indicated by conventional indicating mechanism such as frequently employed in the art of money paydisposed in the drawer and housing the money handling mechanism aforesaid.
2. The combination with a cash register embodying the customary controlling keys, and a cash drawer releasable thereby, and money paying instrumentalities mounted in the drawer including a drawer opening device coacting to cause money ejection.
- 3. The combination with a cash register embodying the customary controlling keys, and a cash drawer releasable thereby, and money paying instrumentalities mounted in the drawer including a spring to open the drawer, a pusher operable by movement of the drawer to store up energy in said spring, and means acted on by the spring to control money ejection.
4. In combination, a cash register comprising manipulative register controlling means, and provided with the usual cash drawer space, and an attachment for said register consisting of money mechanism complete in itseli and adapted to occupy said space after removal of the drawer and to be governed in operation by the register instrumentalities.
5. In combination with a cash register of the well known type including operating keys, and having a space for the usual cash drawer, a money paying mechanism adapted to be substituted for said drawer upon removal thereof and to be then controlled by said keys, and other control means governing action of the paying mechanism.
6. In combination with a cash register of the well known type including sales keys, and having a space to receive a drawer, and lock means operable by the keys to release the drawer for opening, and a money paying mechanismadapted to be substituted for said drawer, to be locked inoperative by the drawer lock means, and to be released for paying action by the said sales keys.
7 In combination with a cash register of the well known type including sales keys and a cash drawer space, and a complete money paying machine adapted to occupy the space for the said drawer after removing the latter and to be governed in its operation by the cash register instrumentalities, said machine including money ejecting means, and a compartmental tray housing the ejecting mechanism and serving the purpose of a drawer structure.
8. A cash register including controlling keys, combined with a money paying mechanism normally inclosed by said register, and means intermediate the register and paying mechanism, whereby to move the paying mechanism bodily, and means to operate the paying instrumentality as an incident to such movement.
9. In combination, a money paying machine including selecting and normally inoperative ejecting means, and manual means to selectively render the ejecting means operative, and a cash register comprising sales keys adapted to control the paying machine as well as the register, and means to actuate the ejecting mechanism controlled by said keys.
10. In combination, a casing and a money paying machine therein including selecting and ejecting means, and a cash register comprising sales keys controlling the ejecting means of the paying machine, money delivery means for the paying mechanism, and means to move said machine bodily to operate the money delivery means.
11. A cash register including controlling keys, combined with a money paying mechanism normally inclosed by said register, means intermediate the register and paying mechanism whereby to move the paying mechanism bodily, means to operate the paying instrumentality as an incident to such movement, and controlling means to predetermine the action of the paying mechanism and accessible from a point exterior to the register.
12. In combination, a machine comprising a casing adapted to receive a cash drawer, means for locking the drawer in a predetermined position, and means for releasing the drawer for operation, a money handling machine complete in itself and comprising a frame adapted to fit into the space of said casing occupied by said drawer after removal of the latter, said money handling machine comprising instrumentalities the action of which is governed by the locking and releasing means above mentioned.
13. In combination, a casing, money handling mechanism comprising a drawer movably mounted in said casing and money paying devices carried by said drawer, means for moving the drawer into open position, and locking and releasing devices for the drawer, said money paying devices including money ejecting instrumentalities and the drawer moving means including a pusher for the drawer adapted to actuate said ejecting instrumentalities.

In combination, a casing, a drawer movably mounted therein, means for opening the drawer, and money handling mechanism in said drawer comprising paying out devices, locking means for the drawer cooperating with the paying out devices to prevent actuation of the latter when the drawer is closed, and releasing means for the drawer to subject the same to the action of the opening means and thereby operate the paying out devices.
15. In combination, a casing, a drawer mounted for movement therein, money handling mechanism on the drawer including selecting and ejecting mechanism, means to open the drawer adapted to operate said e eetmg mechanism, means to lock the drawer closed cooperating to prevent actuation of the ejecting mechanism by said drawer opening means, and means for releasing the drawer to cause opening of the same and actuation of selected parts of the ejecting mechanism aforesaid.
16. In combination, a casing, a drawer mounted for movement therein, means for forcibly opening the drawer, money ejecting mechanism carried by the drawer and operable by said opening means, locking means for holding the drawer closed and maintaining the opening means at an adjustment preventing actuation of the ejecting devices thereby, means to release the drawer, and a money delivery chute cooperative with the ejecting means and adapted to be rendered operative and inoperative incident to the movement of the drawer.
17. In combination, a casing, av drawer mounted for movement therein, means for forcibly opening the drawer, money ejecting mechanism carried by the drawer and 0p erable by said opening means, locking means for holding the drawer closed and maintaining the opening means at an adjustment preventing actuation of "he ejecting devices thereby, means to release the drawer, and manipulative controlling devices associated with the ejector mechanism for predetermining the ejecting action of the latter.
18. In combination, a casing, a drawer mounted for movement therein, means for forcibly opening the drawer, money ejecting mechanism carried by the drawer and 0p erable by said opening means, locking means for holding the drawer closed and maintaining the opening means at an adjustment preventing actuation of the ejecting devices thereby, means to release the drawer, manipulative controlling devices associated with the ejector mechanism for predetermining the ejecting action of the latter, money holders adapted to hold money subject to ejection by the ejecting mechanism, and a money delivery chute coiiperative with the coin holders and movable incident to the opening and closing of the drawer to operative and inoperative positions.
19. In combination, a casing and money handling mechanism mounted therein comprising a frame movably supported in the casing, ejecting mechanism carried by said frame, controlling devices for said ejecting mechanism, means for shifting the frame bodily on the casing, means intermediate said shifting means and the ejecting mechanism whereby to operate the latter incident to the movement of the frame, and locking and releasing means for the frame.
20. In combination, a casing and money handling mechanism mounted therein comprising a frame movably supported in the casing, ejecting mechanism carried by said frame, controlling devices for said ejecting mechanism, means for shifting the frame bodily on the casing, means intermediate said shifting means and the ejecting mechanism whereby to operate the latter incident to the movement of the frame, and locking and. releasing means for the frame, said controlling devices for the ejecting mechanism including manipulative keys, means to lock said keys on operation thereof, and key release means operative incident to the shifting movement of the frame.
21. In combination, a cash register embodying sales keys registering mechanism, drawer locking means controlled by the sales keys, and having a money drawer space and an attachment for said register including a money handling machine complete in itself adapted to fit into said drawer space, said attachment including means to effect its movement in the drawer space controlled by the drawer locking means of the register, and the money handling mechanism comprising instrumentalities operated by said moving means.
22. In combination, a cash register embodying sales keys registering mechanism, drawer locking means controlled by the sales keys and having a money drawer space and an attachment for said register including a money handling machine complete in itself adapted to fit into said drawer space, said attachment including means to effect its movement in the drawer space controlled by the drawer locking means of the register, and the money handling mechanism including money holders, ejecting means for said holders controlled by the attachment moving means aforesaid, and manipulative selecting instrun'ientalities coiiperative with the said ejecting means.
23. In combination, a cash register embodying sales keys registering mechanism, drawer locking means controlled by the sales keys and having a money drawer space and an attachment for said register including a money handling machine complete in itself adapted to fit into said drawer space, said attachment including means to eflect its movement in the drawer space controlled by the drawer locking means of the register, and the money handling mechanism including money holders, ejectors therefor, an actuating member for said ejectors operable by the moving means aforesaid, and selecting instrumentalities intermediate said operating member and the ejectors adapted to variably control the action of the ejectors.

In combination, a cash register embodying sales keys registering mechanism, drawer locking means controlled by the sales keys and having a money drawer space and an attachment for said register includin a money handling machine complete in itself adapted to fit into said drawer space, said attachment including means to effect its movement from the drawer space controlled by the drawer locking means of the register, and the money handling mechanism including money holders, ejectors therefor, an actuating member for said ejectors operable by the moving means aforesaid, selecting instrumentalities intermediate said operating member and the ejectors adapted to variably control the action of the ejectors, and a money delivery chute movably mounted in association with the money holders and cooperative with the cash register structure so as to be rendered operative and inoperative incident to the movement of the money handling machine relatively to the register structure.
25. In a money handling machine, the combination of money holders, ejectors therefor, an ejector actuating bar, ejector actuating members pivoted to said bar and normally disconnected from but cooperative with said ejectors, manipulative selecting mechanism for shifting one or more of said ejector actuating members into positions for engagement with the ejectors, spring retracted means for operating the ejector bar aforesaid, means to release the last named means to cau e movement of the actuating bar, and means controlled from said actuating bar for normalizing the parts after ejecting operation.
26. In a money handling machine, the combination of money holders, ejectors therefor, an ejector actuating bar, ejector actuating members pivoted to said bar and normally disconnected from but cooperative with said ejectors, manipulative selecting mechanism for shifting one or more of said ejector actuating members into positions for engagement with the ejectors, spring retracted means for operating the ejector bar aforesaid, means to release the last named means to cause movement of the actuating bar, locking means for the manipulative selector devices cooperative therewith for actuation of the latter, and release mechanism controlled from said actuating bar to release the manipulative devices after the ejecting operation.
27. In a money handling machine, the combination of money holders, ejectors therefor, an ejector actuating bar, ejector actuating members pivoted to said bar and normally disconnected from but cooperative with said ejectors, manipulative selecting mechanism for shifting one or more of said ejector actuating members into positions for engagement with the ejectors, spring retracted means for operating the ejector bar aforesaid, means to release the last named means to cause movement of the actuating bar, locking means for the manipulative selector devices cooperative therewith for actuation of the latter, release mechanism controlled from said actuating bar to release the manipulative devices after the ejecting operation, a casing adapted to inclose said money handling instrumentalities, a frame in which said instrumentalities are mounted, and an operating member intermediate the actuating bar and the casing for controlling the spring retracted means aforesaid.
28. In combination, a casing, money handling mechanism comprising a frame movably mounted in the casing, money holders carried by said frame, ejecting mechanism for said holders including an actuating bar, manipulative keys selectively controlling the ejecting mechanism, a pusher for moving said frame and supported parts bodily to project the same from the casing, operative connections intermediate said actuating bar and the pusher, and locking and releasing means for the frame.
29. In combination, a casing, money handling mechanism including a frame movable in said casing so as to be substantially inclosed thereby and projected therefrom, locking and releasing means for said frame, money holders, ejecting mechanism for said holders, manipulative selecting mechanism for the ejecting mechanism, all carried by said frame for movement therewith, and means to project said frame with the supported mechanism from the casing when the frame is released and cooperative with the ejecting mechanism to cause ejecting action of the latter.
30. In combination, a casing, money handling mechanism including a frame movable in said casing so as to be substantially inclosed thereby and projected therefrom, locking and releasing means for said frame,
and
money holders, ejecting mechanism for said holders, and manipulative selecting mechanism for the ejecting mechanism, all carried by said frame for movement therewith, means to project said frame with the supported mechanism for the casing when the frame is released and cooperative with the ejecting mechanism to cause ejecting action of the latter, and a delivery chute associated with the money holders and cooperative with the casing whereby said chute is locked from operation when said frame and associated parts are inclosed in the casing, but adapted to be rendered movable upon projection of the frame and said associated parts from the casing.

In combination, a casing, money handling mechanism mounted therein for bodily movement so as to occupy positions inclosed by the casing or projected therefrom, means to project the mechanism from the casing, and locking and releasing means controlling operation of the mechanism by said projecting means, the money handling mechanism including a money delivery chute movable therewith and independently thereof and cooperative with the casing to be locked from movement when the money-handling mechanism is not projected from the casin 32. In a money paying machine, the combination of money holders, a delivery chute associated therewith and having a delivery portion and a display portion, means movably supporting the chute to hold it in one position to receive and display money delivered thereto, and permit it to assume a second position to cause delivery of money displayed thereon, means to shift the chute bodily independently of its movement to assume the positions above mentioned, whereby said positions may actually be assumed and manipulatively controlled ejecting means cooperating with the money holders.
33. In a money paying machine, the combination of money holders, ejecting mechanism therefor including an actuating bar, manipulative selecting means for said ejecting mechanism comprising keys, a locking device for said keys, a release member connected with said actuating bar and cooperative with said locking device to release an operated key incident to movement of said actuating bar, a special key controlling the ejecting mechanism, separate locking means for said key, and cooperating means intermediate the first named key locking device and said separate locking means.
34. In a money paying machine, the com bination of money holders, ejecting mechanism therefor including an actuating bar, manipulative selecting means for said ejecting mechanism comprising keys, a locking device for said keys, a release member connected with said actuating bar and cooperative with said locking device to release an operated key incident to movement of said actuating bar, a special key controlling the ejecting mechanism, separate locking means for said key, means carried by the locking device first mentioned for actuating the separate locking means for release of the special key incident to release of any of the first mentioned keys and permitting action of said separate locking means independent of the action of the said locking device.

In money paying mechanism the combination of money holders, ejecting mechanism associated therewith including ejectors, ejector actuating members separate from but engageable' with said ejectors, an actuating bar connected with the actuating members, selecting mechanism including selecting plates, means intermediate the selecting plates and the actuating members to selec tively control the latter, means for operating the actuating bar, manipulative keys for operating the selector plates, the ejector actuating members being so associated with the ejectors that when said members are not operated by the selecting plates movement of the actuating members locks the same in inoperative positions respecting the ejectors.-
36. In money paying mechanism the combination of money holders, ejecting mechanism associated therewith including ejectors, ejector actuating members separate from but engageable with said ejectors, an actuating bar connected with the actuating members, selecting mechanism including selecting plates, means intermediate the selecting plates and the actuating members to selectively control the latter, means for operating the actuating bar, manipulative keys for op erating the selector plates, the ejector actuating members being so associated with the ejectors that when said members are not operated by the selecting plates movement of the actuating members locks the same in inoperative positions respecting the ejectors, a special key connected with one of the selector plates to impart supplemental movement thereto after its operation by its associated manipulative device, whereby the associated ejector of said plate may be operated upon, a locking plate cooperating to lock the manipulative keys after operation of the same, a locking'memloer to lock the special key after its operation, a release rod connected with the actuating bar and cooperative with the locking plate to release the keys on movement of the actuating bar, and means carried by the locking plate coacting with the locking member to release the special key incident to the release of any other key, if said special key has been operated.

In combination, a cash drawer, normally inoperative money ejecting mechanism associated therewith, setting means for preliminarily rendering the ejecting mechanism operative to pay out money, operating means for moving the drawer and operating the ejecting mechanism, and means to control the action of said operating means.
38. In combination, a cash drawer, money ejecting mechanism associated therewith, setting means for the ejecting mechanism, locking means for said setting means, operating means for moving the drawer and operating the ejecting mechanism at the same time, and means operable from said operating means to release the locking means.
39. In combination, a cash register comprising a casing, a drawer movably mounted therein, means for opening the drawer, and money handling mechanism in said drawer comprising paying out devices, locking means for the drawer cooperating with the paying out devices to prevent actuation of the latter when the drawer is closed, releasing means for the drawer to subject the same to the action of the opening means and thereby cause operation of said paying out devices, means coacting with the paying out devices to predetermine their operation, and sales keys for said cash register cooperative with said release means for the drawer to effect release action of the same.
40. The combination, with a register and its operating devices, of a drawer for said register, money paying mechanism carried by said drawer, manipulative means to control the paying action of said mechanism, lock means for said manipulative means for holding the latter in set positions, a release device for the locking means, and a common operating device for actuating the drawer causing paying action of the paying mechanism and for operating the said release device.
41. The combination, with a register and its operating devices, of a drawer for said register, money paying mechanism carried by said drawer, manipulative means to control the paying action of said mechanism, lock means for said manipulative means for holding the latter in set positions, a release device for the locking means, a pusher and actuating means therefor mounted upon the drawer for causing opening movement of the latter, locking means for the drawer controlled by the operating devices of the register, means intermediate said pusher and the paying mechanism for causing paying out operation of the latter, and means intermediate said pusher and the release device for operating the said device.
42. The combination, with an accounting machine, of a cash receptacle containing coin holding and ejecting devices, means for preventing operation of the ejecting devices when said cash receptacle is in such a posi tion on the accounting machine as to be maintained closed thereby, and means dependent upon the operation of the accounting machine for effecting actuation of the ejecting devices.
43. In a machine of the class described the combination, with a cash register comprising keys, of a cash drawer containing money delivering devices, means on said drawer for operating said money delivering devices and controlled from the keys of the cash register, and separate keys carried by the cash drawer for selectively predetermining the action of the money delivering devices.
