Description

J. A. ROBISON. SPRING ATTAC ENT DEVICE.
APPLICATION JAN. 9
Patented Apr. 10, 1917 r em 1;
JOSEPH A. ROBISON, OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, ASSIGNOB 0F ONE-HALF TO JOHN F. HAMMETT, OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS.
Application filed January 9, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J osnrrr A. ROBISON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Little Rock, in the county of Pulaski and State of Arkansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Spring Attachment Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in spring attachment devices of the adjustable type for attaching any auxiliary or secondary wheel, such as an emery wheel, grinding stone, buffing wheel or polishing device, to the ordinary fly wheel of sewing machines and rotatable wheels of similar character, by means of an adjustable flat spring or springs with an outward thrust or tension permitting the auxiliary device to be secured to the inner face of the felly of the fly wheel as shown in the drawings hereinafter referred to, (and which is my preferred form in using my invention herein disclosed).
My objects are first, as hereinbeit'ore described and second, to supply a cheap and convenient means of supplying the household with a grinding, bufling and polishing device adaptable as an attachment to the ordinary sewing machine or similar or any convenient motive power.
I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,-
Figure 1 is a vertical side elevation of the spring attachment device in partial cross section, showing in detail the manner in which the auxiliary wheel is secured to the felly of the motor or fly wheel by means of my spring attachment device; Fig. 2 is a top View of the complete device in operation viewed from the fly wheel.
' Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring more particularly to Fig. 1 part 7 is the motor or fly wheel rotating with shaft 8 and provided with spokes 11. The

SPRING- ATTACHMENT- DEVICE.
Patented Apr. 1L0, 1917..
Serial No. 1,408.
auxiliary'wheel 1 is secured to the spring attachment device 2 and 3 by employing any ordinary bolt l washer 6 and nut 5. The device is secured to fly wheel 7 at 9 and 10, the said device being supplied with springs of the character hereinbei'ore described which are curved as at 9 and 10 to snugly clamp and revolve as a unit with said motor fly wheel 7 carrying with them rotatably auxiliary wheel 1. Springs 2 and 3 are made in two pieces slotted to receive bolt 4 and graduated at 12 for the purpose of afiording accurate adjustment, which is shown by reference to Fig. 2.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim:
1. The combination with a motor or fly wheel, of an auxiliary wheel, resilient arms carried by the auxiliary wheel and having their free ends terminating in hook portions adapted to embrace the inner periphery of the wheel to which the auxiliary wheel is applied, and means for adjusting the arms with relation to the auxiliary wheel.
2. The combination with a motor or fly wheel, of an auxiliary wheel having a central hub, resilient arms having elongated openings, one ofsaid arms having a graduated portion, the hub of the auxiliary wheel being provided with a graduated portion cooperating with the graduated portion of the resilient arm, whereby the resilient arms may be adjusted with relation to each other, and a bolt extending through the elongated openings of the resilient arms and hub for holding the same in engagement with each other, the free ends of said resilient arms adapted to embrace the inner periphery of the wheel to which the auxiliary wheel is applied for securing the same thereto.
