SYRINGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 3, 1917.
Application filed July 6, 1914. Serial No. 849,193.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WARREN J. Nomus, a citizen of the United States, residing in Mc- Loud, county of Pottawatomie, and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Syringes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a syringe specially fitted for veterinary use.
An obj cct of the invention is to provide a practical device, capable of performing the functions necessary to devices of this character.
Other objects of the invention will appear from a further reading of the following specification.
On the drawing, accompanying, and forming a part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a syringe constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the suction cup.
Fig. 3 is a rear view of the device, the union and supply tube being removed.
Fig. t is a side elevation of the device,- parts being broken away and shown in section.
Fig. 5 is a detail view-of the union.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view of the tube 8 in the plane of the valve 7.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The numeral 6 designates a rectal nozzle, which has a tapered end, and communicates with a flexible tube 8 through which the fluid to be injected is supplied, a suitable pump (not shown) being used if desired. A conventional shut off valve 7 is shown as provided for controlling the supply of the fluid and preventing back flow thereof.
At a proper distance from the front or injecting end of the nozzle 6, a vacuum cup 9 is provided, the hollow or concave side of the said vacuum cup facing toward the in jecting end of the nozzle, and being of a proper configuration for engagement with the flesh at the mouth of the anus or other opening to which the syringe may be applied.
The nozzle 6, at a point adjacent to the mouth of the vacuum cup, is bulged or enlarged, as indicated at 10, so that the fleshy protuberance at the orifice may slip over this enlargement in entering the vacuum cup 9.
For the purpose of creating a vacuum in the cup 9, any suitable means may be employed. In the present instance a series of suction tubes extend rearwardly' from the cup 9, being connected at their rear ends by a union 12, which communicates with a suction pump or some conventional means for producing a vacuum.
With the protuberance of the orifice slipped over the enlargementlO and drawn into the vacuum cup 9, an elastic packing is provided between the enlargement and the cup, so that neither gas nor the injected fluid can flow back from the orifice into the cup and destroy the vacuum.
Having thus described this invention I claim:
1. A syringe, comprising an injecting tube, a vacuum cup surrounding the tube, an enlargement in the body of the tube near the mouth of the cup, means for feeding the tube, and means for creating a vacuum in the cup.
2. A syringe, comprising an injecting tube, a vacuum cup surrounding said tube, apump tube connected to the injecting tube, an enlargement in the body of the tube near the mouth of the cup, a suction tube leading WARREN J. NORRIS.
