Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAvID DANGLE, OE BELMONT, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN FIRE-PLACE GRATES.
To all whom it may concer-n:
Beit known that I, DAvID PANGLE, of Belmont, in the county of Belmont and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Grates; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the. construction and operation ofthe same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and gures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l. of the drawing is a representation of a vertical transverse section of my invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal longitudinal section ol' the saine. Fig. 3 is a front elevation ot the same.
This invention has relation to lre-grates; and consists in the application to a nre-place of sliding doors; to the grate, of a bottom which may be shaken by a suitably-arranged handle; and also in the peculiar construction of the grate ends arranged in relation to the back of the tire-place and reflecting-plate, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating this invention, A represents the front plate surrounding a fire-place, and B the front parallel bars of a grate set therein. U C indicate two doors arranged to slide laterally between horizontal slidebars d. When brought together these doors close up the hre-place in iront of the grate, and when separated slide behind the plate A. D D designate the ends of the grate D", slotted at D to receive the projecting longitudinal bars d of the grate-base df, composed of the latter, united by the transverse bars d. E is an elbow-lever, one end of which is pivoted to one of the bars d. The other end is outside the plate A. The lever extends through a slot in the latter. The moving of this lever vibrates the grate-bottom and shakes down the ashes in order to clean the same. F is an ash-drawer, which slides in and out underneath the grate. G G represent vertical standards at the ends of the grate, supporting on their upper ends the triangular radiator H, having its under surface corrugated to increase its extent. I indicates two vertical slide-bars, in which the front of the grate is fitted and may be removed from it, at pleasure, When burnt out, or for other causes.
Having described my invention, I claim- The lire-place herein described, provided with the corrugated inclined radiator H, the rising front bars B, the lixed supporting-grate D having longitudinal bars, and the cross-barred slidegrate df, longitudinally vibrated by the lever E, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of Witnesses WM. MCCAEFREY,
J ENKINsoN WRIGHT. (154)
