Description

J. F. HEMENWAY.
CLOTHES WRINGEIL APPLICATION FILED OCT. 26 I916.
Patented Mar. 20, 191?.
JOHN F. HEMENWAY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
' GLOTHES-WRINGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 26, 1916. Serial No. 127,904.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN F. HEMENWAY,
a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Wringers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in clothes wringers and more particularly to that class of clothes wringers having pressure roll releasing devices in which a movably mounted top bar is employed carrying the pressure screws for adjusting the pressure means, the object being to provide a novel form of stop for limiting the upward movement of the top barwhenreleased in order to prevent the same from jumping out of the wringer frame.
Another object of my invention is to provide a stop which is so constructed that the same can be readily shifted into such a position that the top bar can be removed from the wringer frame in order to remove the pressure rolls and pressure means.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a detail section of a portion of a clothes wringer showing my improved construction of stop for the top bar; and
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the stop and keeper detached from the wringer frame.
Like numerals of reference refer to like parts in the several figures of the drawing.
In the drawing 1 indicates one of the furcations of the ordinary slotted side bar of a wringer frame in which is slidably mounted a top bar 2 which is provided with a threaded box 3 carrying a pressure screw 4 which is adapted to engage a bearing plate 5 carried by a pressure bar 6, said bearing plate resting on a coil pressure spring 7 which is mounted in the usual manner so as to exert the desired pressure on the pressure rolls of-the wringer. The threaded box 3 is provided with a groove extension 8, the bottom of which is provided with a slot 9 adapted to-receive one of the depending reduced end portions 10 of a stop 11 slidably mounted within the groove 8, said depending portions extending downwardly below the plane of the extension of the box a sufficient distance to allow the same to be manipulated in order to shift the position of the stop in the groove of the extension. Secured to the side bar 1 over the slotted portion at its upper end is a keeper 12 in the form of a plate having a slot 13 to receive the stop 11. The box 3 is also provided with an apertured lug 14 through which a screw is adapted to pass for securely fastening the box in position in the top bar. 7
In placing the box and stop in position in the top bar, the underface of the top bar is. cut away into each side of the bore formedto receive the box, and the lower ed e of the cut-away portion of the top bar orms Patented Man. 20, 1917.
means for retaining the slidably mounted stop or bolt 11 in position within the groove of the extension of the box which holds the same in set position so that the same can be readily shifted back and forth into and out of the keeper 12.
By this construction of forming the stop, I am able to form the box with an extension of a casting and the'stop can be inserted with either of its depending ends 10 in the groove and slot of the extension, whereby time is saved in assembling the parts.
I claim:
1. In a clothes wringer, the combinationwith a movably mounted top bar, of a.
threaded box having an extension mounted therein, a bolt slidably mounted in sand extension, and a keeper carried by thes1de bar of said frame adapted to receive said bolt for limiting the upward movement of sa1d top bar.
2. A clothes wringer, comprising a frame having a movably mounted top bar,-a keeper carried by the sidebar of said frame, a
threaded box mounted in said top bar carrying a pressure screw, a slotted grooved extension formed on said box, and a stop slid-- ably mounted in the groove of said extension having a depending portion working in the slot thereof, said stop cooperating with said keeper for limiting the movement of said top bar in the side bars of said frame.- 3. In a clothes wringer, the combinatlon with a movably mounted top bar, of an internally threaded pressure screw carrying box mounted therein, a stop carried by said box. and a keeper arranged on the frame of said wringer adapted to receive said stop, iaid stop being movably mounted on said 4. In a clothes wringer, the combination with a movably mounted top bar, of an internally threaded box seated within said top bar carrying a pressure screw, said box having a grooved slotted extension, of a stop slidably mounted in the groove of said extension having a depending ortion extending through the slot thereof and a keeper carried by the side bars of said frame adapted to receive said stop for limiting the upward movement of said top bar.
5. In a clothes 'wringer having a movably mounted top bar, the combination with an internally threaded box therefor carrying a pressure screw, of a stop slidably carried by said box, and a keeper carried by the side bars of said frame adapted to receive said stop for limiting the upward movement of said top bar.
6. In a clothes wringer having a movably mounted top bar, an internally threaded box 7 seated within said top bar having a grooved extension provided with a slot, a stop slidably mounted in the groove of said extension having a depending end portion extending through said slot, and a keeper cooperating with said stop for limiting the movement of said top bar.
7. In a clothes wringer, the combination with a movably mounted top bar provided with a bore and a cut-away portion, of an internally threaded box seated within the JOHN F. HEMENVVAY.
