To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL H. SCHENDLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Compressing-Rolls and Mountings Therefor, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to compressing rolls and mountings therefor, and consists in certain improvements in the construction thereof, as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein it is shown asa clothes wringer as follows:
Figure 1 is an end view of the wringer; .Fig. 2' an elevation partly in section on the line 22 in Fig. 1 of one end of the wringer; Fig. 3 is a side'elevation of a bearing lever and gear housing; Fig. at a section on the line 4-4 in Fig. 3; Fig. 5 a perspective view of the bearing lever; Fig. 6 a perspective View of the securing plate; and Fig. 7 a perspective view of the housing.

The bearing lever 10 terminates in the post 13 which extends through and against the lever 12 acting as a fulcrum for the levers. A pressure post or bolt 14 extends through the levers from the clamp 15, the clothes guide 16 being secured between the clamp 15 and the scribed are similar to those used in a well known type of wringer. Many attempts have been made to provide a wringer of this type with gears arranged within the frame'but difficulty has been experienced in providing a suitable housing for the gears.

1 for each roll carried by said leve In the present construction, the gear 5 is arranged on the upper shaft 3, and the gear 6 on the lower shaft 4, and the housing 20 is provided for these gears. The housing is shown in detail in Figs. 3 to 7 The main part of the housing comprises a peripheral wall 20* which extends around the gears and the plate 20 having the slot 21. This plate 20 is arranged between the gears and the .rolls. The shafts 3 and 4 extend through the slot '21. The wall 20 is providedwith the notches 22 and the lugs 23. ordinary practice, the plate is first secured to the mounting then the housing to the plate. In this manner the housing is firmly secured to the bearing lever, and carried Withit. It is thus maintained in position with relation to the gears, and the bearings so as to utilize but little space and'yet allow the free running of the rolls and gears. What I claim as new is: 1. In compressing rollsand therefor, the combination of two rolls; two bearing levers extending transversely from the rolls and having a swinging connection at their outer ends to permit a to and from movement at their inner ends; bearingsone nd a mountings guard plate secured to one of the levers and extending between the rolls and the bear- 2. In compressing rolls and mountings therefor, the combination of two rolls; two bearing levers extending transversely from the rolls and having a swinging connection at their outer ends to permit a to and from movement at their inner ends; bearings, one for each roll carried by the levers; gears, one for each roll between the bearings and the rolls; and a housing for the gears carried by one of the levers comprising a peripheral wall, and a plate between the gears and the rolls.

In compressing rolls and mountings therefor, the combination of two rolls; bearings for the rolls; bearing mountings for the bearings; gears between the mountings and the rolls; a housing for the gears comprising a peripheral wall and a plate between the gears and the rolls; and a plate on the mounting side of the housing carried by the mounting. In compressing rolls and mountings therefor, the combination of two rolls; two bearing levers extending transversely from the rolls and having a swinging connection at their outer ends to permit a to and from movement at their inner ends; bearing mountings on the levers; bearings, one for each roll, carried by the mountings; gears, one for each roll, between the bearings and the rolls; a housing for the gears comprising a peripheral wall; a plate between the gearsand the rolls; and a securing plate between the bearings and the gears secured to the mounting and the housing, and forming a means of connection between the mounting and the housing.
