BLUCKJVIOLD.
Application filed. November 9, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM II. PATTER- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cuyahoga Falls, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Block- Molds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to block molds adapted for the manufacture of cement blocks or the like, and has for its object to provide an improved mold of the sepaable type, provided with novel means for withdrawing cores used in the manufacture of the block.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the mold.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view.
Fig. 3 is an end elevation.
Fig. 1 is a plan of the bottom board or pallet.
Fig. 5 is a section of a block made by the mold.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 indicates a stand or support on which the is mounted. This stand receives thereon a pallet or bottom board 7. Hinged as indicated at 8, to each side of the stand or table, are side plates 9, arranged to swing up or down to close or open the mold. At each end of the stand are projecting arms 10 which support a pair of guides 11 for rods 12 secured to the end plates 13 of the mold. These end plates are provided with lugs Ll adapted to be engaged by latches 15 pivoted to the side plates 9 to hold the mold closed. A rope 16 is connected to each end plate and passes over a pulley 17 supported between the outer ends of the arms 10, and the rope carries a weight 18 sulficient to withdraw the end plates when the latches 15 are released. Attached to each end plate 13 is a core 19 of proper size and shape to produce the desired recess in the block and which is indicated at 20.
In operating the machine the side plates are swung up and the end plates are pushed in and engaged by the latches. The cement Specification of Letters Patent.

is then put in a mold. lVhen it is set, the latches 15 are released. and the weights 18 will withdraw the cores and the end plates without danger of breaking the block, because the rods 12 and the guides 11 insure a direct straight line movement until the cores are completely withdrawn. The movement is stopped by the guides 11. The side plates 9 being swung down, the block can be lifted on the pallet and removed for another operation.
[in important feature of the invention is the direct line pull afforded by the weights, and the guides, whereby the cores are withdrawn from the molds without breaking or disturbing the block. It has been found that when cores are removed by hand, or by a swinging or indirect action the edges of the block are sometimes broken out or dislodged. These defects are avoided by the steady direct pull of the weights, and by the rods traveling in the guides.
l i hat I claim as new is:
1. A block mold comprising a stand adapted to support a bottom board, side plates hinged to the stand, guides spaced from the ends of the stand, end core plates having rods slidable in said guides, and weights connected to the end plates and tending to withdraw the same to contact vith the guides which serve as stops.
A block mold comprising a stand adapted to support a bottom board, side plates hinged to the stand, a pair of arms projecting from each end of the stand, said arms having guides spaced from the ends of the stand, a pulley supported by the arms, end core plates having a pair of rods slidable in said guides, and a weight connected to each end plate by a rope passing over the pulley, and adapted to draw the end plates outwardly to contact with the guides.
In testimony whereof, I 'atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM H. PATTERSON.
