upwardly enables a slight adjustment to be made between these parts to take care of any slight inaccuracy in the connections between the supports 12 and the plates .13 and members 11. The vertical leg of the support 12 fitting into the recess 20 insures that the holes 27 and 28 will register with each other so that the bolts 29 can be easily inserted. Thus the whole stair structure may be erected by a single workman working from the top side of the steps. After the members 11 are all secured in position the treads may be filled in with concrete or other suitable material.
It will be noted that the stair-case has a very neat appearance from below as only the lower leg of the support 12 can be seen and that the construction is such that the tread is above the supporting leg of the angle with its weight resting thereon and carried thereby, so that there is no tension on the bolts 29. h
Having thus described my invention what i I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A stair structure comprising a stringer, a member including tread and riser sections, and an angle iron tread support secured in substantially horizontal position to said stringer and tread section, one leg of the angle iron extending beneath the tread and supporting it, and one of the sections of the member cooperating with said angle iron to determine the correct assembled position of said tread section.
2. A stair structure comprising a stringer,
a tread section, said tread section having a side edge recessed, and an angle iron tread support secured in substantially horizontal positionto said stringer and tread section, one leg of; the angle iron extending beneath the tread section and supporting it and the other leg lying in the recess and having an edge thereof engaged by a portion of the.
lying in the recess and having an edge there-.
of engaged by a. portion of the member to correctly position the latter.
4. A stair structure comprising a Stringer,
a member including tread and riser sections, said tread section having aside edge recessed, and an angle iron tread support secured in substantially horizontal position to said stringer and tread section, one leg of the angle iron extending beneath the tread section and supportingnt, and the other leg lying in the recess of the tread section to position the tread and secure the same against movement longitudinally of the angle iron in either direction.
v 5. A stair structure comprising spaced stringers, a plurality of members between the stringers each including tread and riser sections, the tread and riser sections of adjacent members having forwardly and upwardlyinclined portions disposed in overlying relation, securing means extending through the inclined portions, and means for supporting the members from the stringers.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence oftwo witnesses ARTHUR L. WOODBRIDGE. lVitnesses:
