Description

G, PVW IGGINTON TEMPORARY BINDER OR LOOSE SHEET HOLDER. APPLICATIOiN fmu APR. 26. 1915.
l/VVEA/TOR GEORGE F. WIGGINTON A TTOR/VE Y5 Patented Mar. 13, 1917.
GEORGE P. WIGGIN TON, OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO KALAMAZOOJO OSE LEAF BINDER (30., OF KALAMAZO O, MICHIGAN. I
TEMPORARY BINDER 0R. LOOSE-SHEET HOLDER. I
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. WIGGIN- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kalamazoo, Michigan, have invented cer-- tain new and useful Improvements in Temporary Binders or Loose-Sheet Holders, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in temporary binders or loose sheet holders. My improvements are particularly adapted for embodiment in temporary binders of the typeishown in Letters Patent to Bushong,
No. 851,276, April 23, 1907, where the back.
there shown is omitted, although adapted for use in other types and styles of binders.
The main objects of my invention are to provide in a temporary binder an improved name or title plate adapted to be adjusted to maintain its central position as the leaves or sheets of the binder are increased or diminished, and one which does not in. any way interfere with the use of the binder in its usual manner.
' Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure I is a rear perspective view of .a binder embodying the features of my inv vention.
Fig. II is a detail longitudinal section thereof on a line corresponding to line 22 of Fig. I. j
Fig. III is an enlargedperspective view of the title plate or member.
.Fig. IV is a transverse section there through on a line corresponding to line 44 of Fig. II, the hinge relation for the support to the title member being indicated by dotted lines. Fig. V is a detail vertical section of modification illustrating my improvements embodied in a Post binder. I In the drawings similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the the covers of the binder.
Specification of 'Letters Patent. 4 PatentedMar, 13, 1917, Application filed April 26, 1915. Serial No. 24,052.-
several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawings, 1, 1 represents The clamping or sheet binding members 2 are pivotally connected to the hinge members 3 projecting from the rear edges of the covers. The
binding strips 4 extend into the covers, and
are arranged through the binding members 2 which have openings 5 therein for the binding strips, permitting the pivotal movement of the binding members on the hinge members. 1
The binding strips are connected to one coverat 6 and to the other by an adjusting means, not shown. The screw adjusting means shown in the said Bushong Patent No. 851,276 is satisfactory.- The binding members and binding strips are arranged substantially as described in that patent.
The sheets 7 are slotted at 8 to engage I the binding strips 4 and are bound between thev binding members 2. v
In the structure of the Bushong patent a flexible back is provided. The binders of that patent are, however,'manufactured for use in large quantities without this flexible back.
For such binders I providea name plate or title member 9 adapted to receive a name or title. The name ortitle member is provided with a support 10 having a T-slot 11 adapted to receive a binding strip 4.
The web-like support 10 is adapted to be disposed between the centralsheets of the leaf body to engage the binding strips, thereby supporting the titleplate or member against the rear edge of the leaf body. The title member is preferably formed of a strip of cardboard 12 or other stiff material with a leather or cloth cover 13.
The web-like support 10 is formed of a stiff material '14, as cardboard, over which the covering 13 is extended, thereby hinging or flexibly connecting the support with the body of the title member, as is clearly indicated in Fig. IV.
In the modification shown in F ig. V the binding members 15 carry post sections. 16 and 17. having telescoping engagement. The means for securing these sections in their adjusted relations is not shown as it forms,
- able means are well known. The sheets or leaves are engaged with the post as is also the support. of the title member.
By this arrangement of parts the title member can be shifted as the sheets are increased or diminished, thereby permitting it being kept in a central position. By flexibly connecting the support to the title member the title member does not interfere with the flexibility of the binder or the manipulation of the sheets.
Ihave not illustrated or described my improvernents embodied ina-ll of the relations for which it is adaptedand designed for use, as I believe the disclosure made will enable those skilled in the art to which my invention relates to embody or adapt the same as may be desired. I desire, however, to be understood as claiming my improvements specifically in the form illustrated as well as broadly within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
1. In a temporary binder, the combination with the covers, of binding members pivotally associated therewith, sheets or leaves disposed between said binding members, a binding strip disposed through said binding members. and sheets and extending into said covers, said binding strip being flexible and member with the sheet body as is opened and closed and the sheets manipupermitting the independent movement of of binding members, sheets or leaves disposed between said binding members, a binding strip extending between said bindin members, said binding strip being flexible to permit the independent movement of said binding members and said sheets as the binder is opened and closed and the sheets manipulated, and a title member having an inwardly projecting support hinged to its rear side and engaged with said binding strip whereby movement of the title the binder lated is permitted.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand andseal in the presence of two witnesses. v,
GEORGE P. WI(ar GllqlOlq, [its] Witnesses: I
