To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. FRANK M. Knarxa, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in \Virc-Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved wire clamp whereby a wire forming part of a fence can be connected with the fence post and the principal object of the invention is to provide a. clamp which can be connected with a cement or iron fence post and which is provided with an improved clutching element for securely engaging the fence wire and holding the wire in the tightened condition.
Another object of the invention is to so construct the two clutching jaws that when the wire is gripped it will be bent downw ardly thus preventing the wire from slippm A nother object of the invention is to so construct the clamp as to permit of its being cast, thus permitting the clamp to be very cheaply produced.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view showing the clamp in side elevation and embedded in a post a fragment of the same being shown 1n section Fig. 2 is a. view showing the clamp in front elevation,

This clutch or fastener includes the stationary jaw 10 and movable jaw 11 which is pivotally connected with the stationary jaw by means of the rivet 12, the movable jaw being provided with an extension 13 cut to resemble a nut so that the movable jaw can be turned to an operative or inoperative position. The stationary jaw which is connected with the post 14 by means of the threaded stem or shank 15 is provided with a flange 16 having a lip 17 and provided showing the clamp in Specification of Letters Patent.

with a toothe l gripping face 18 which is curved as shown in Fig. 3 so that a pocket is formed into which the wire 19 will be bent when the toothed gripping face 20 of the movable jaw is in engagement with the wire.
This clutch is connected with the post either by emledding the shank 15 in the cement while forming the post or by screwin; the shank through a threaded opening in an iron pos; and the movable jaw is then swung out 01 the position shown in the drawing so that the wire can be passed across the pocket of the stationary jaw and stretched tight. After the wire has been stretched tight a wrench will be connected with the lug )r extension 13 and the movable jaw swung to the position shown thereby bringing i:s gripping face into engagement with the wire to bend the wire into the pocket. The wire will then be securely gripped by he gripping faces 18 and '20 of the two j:.ws and the wire will be securely held in place and prevented from slipping. It should be noted that the threaded stem 15 extends from the body portion 10 opoosite the free end of the movable jaw and therefore when the device is in use, the wire which is under tension cannot turn the stem in the post. With this construction, ,he clamp will be securely connected with the post without the necessity of two or mc re fasteners. The lip 1? prevents any da iger of the wire slipping out of the pocket from between the jaws by a transverse mc vement and therefore the wire cannot become disconnected from the clutch until the mo able jaw is again moved into the inoperative position. It will thus be seen that this clutch is so constructed that the wire will be securely but releasably held in engagemer t with the post.
