Description

PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN P. OETH, OF CANTON, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN REFRIGERATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,655, dated December 5, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN P. OETH, of Canton, in the county of Lewis and State of Missouri, have invented a certain Improved Refrigerator; and I do hereby declare that the following` is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, Which Will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had' to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in Which- Figure l represents a front elevation, partly in section, of my improved refrigerator. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same.
Similar letters of referenceindicate correspond ing parts.
This invention relates to animproved arrangement of refrigerator;- and consists in the combination of a suspended ice and Water receptacle with a perforated cylinder for detaining the impurities from the ice, as hereinafter more fully described.
A in the drawing represents the case or box of my improved refrigerator, made of Wood and lined With non-heat-conducting material in suitable manner. From the top of the box A is, in the middle of the same, suspended a sheet-metal vessel, B, open on top and provided With a cover C. Ice is placed into the vessel B upon a grate;
a, therein contained, and serves to cool the entire interior of the case A, the vessel B being so placed that air can freely circulate around it. Water can also be poured into the vessel B to be cooled, and is drawn off through a faucet, I), which is applied to the lower part of B. The faucet connects at its inner end With a perforated cylinder, E, as shown, said cylinder detaining impure matter that may have adhered to the ice and prevented it from fiowing out through the faucet. F is a sliding drawer, arranged in the lower part of the case A. It can be drawn out, as in Fig. 2, to catch drippings from the faucet. The front of the case A is provided with doors G G, which, when opened, will disclose the arrangement of shelves b b Within A at both sides of the vessel B.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The perforated or wire-gauze cylinder E, pro vided with the discharge-faucet D, and arranged in the suspended and removable ice-receptacle B, and all combined with the case A, and constructed as herein shown and set forth.
