To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANgoIs LAoAMBnA, a citizen of the French Republic, residing at Rue loissonnerie Bayonne, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring-Links, of which the following is a specification. 7.
This invention relates to spring links or shock absorbers of the kind eyes and mit the two rods or the like to beplaced close together SlClG they are held by the spring pressed by theflanges when tension is applied to theends of the link.
This invention has for its object to provide an improved metal spring link or barof this type which can be applied to various industries, particularl togymnastic or exercising apparatus, to buckle-making, to the stoppers ofiflasks and bottles containing everages or liquids which'are sterilized or under pressure, to the bung-holes of casks and other rods of circular along their' contacting surfaces, ment of fixed collars or flanges which are notched instead of slotted for the passage of the rods, andthe formingof theeyesby bending theends of the rods as hereinafter described.

In the form of the link shown in 5 and 7, one of the plates 3 forms part with a. scale 7 which is placed parallel to and at a slight distance from the juxtaposed rods 1, the other plate 3' is furnished with an arm 8 formed by a wire, into the loop or buckle 9 of which the end of the scale enters. One or more spring links may be applied to numerous objects so as to make them extensible.
In the gymnastic apparatus for use by hand illustrated in Figs. 8 and 9, the two parallel handles H made of wood or other material have each running through them longitudinally a metal rod 15 which extends to'the outside and takes a position perpendicular to the handle, its end is counter bent at 16 ata right angle toward the outside, that is to say parallel. to the handle, here it receives a ring 17. Into each of the two rings 17 situated on the same side of the f the two hooks 6 of E. The parts of the rods 15 which come parallel and laterally to the handles H have a smooth part along which they lie and slide one against the other. In order to reduce the friction, a roller 19 running on the smooth part of the adjacent rod 15 may be pivoted in each rod 15, being retained opposite the other rod 15 by a ring 20 furnished with a roller 21. running over the outer surface of this other rod.
. Inthecask bung-hole Fig. 10 the plug C rests on the body B; two links E are fixed by their hooks 6 on rings 22 implanted in the body 13 and on open hooks 23 fixed in the plug C. When over-pressure arises in the cask provided with this bung-hole the plug C is raised, the springs 5 of the links E are compressed between the plates 3 and the gas is able to escape into the atmosphere. Directly the over-pressure ceases the expansion of the springs 5 brings the plug 0 on to the body B. The hooks 23 being open, the links E may be easily released from the plug C, which, being freed, allows of the cask being filled or emptied.
In Figs. 11 and 12 two spring links E of the type mentioned above are attached by one of their eyes to the cross bar (r of a buckle A. In the arrangement .hown in the upper part of Fig. 12 a notch 7) is formed in the cross bar a for positioning the eye 6. In the arrangement shown in the lower part a projection b is formed on the cross bar a, for retaining the eye 6 in position. The opposite eyes 6 of the two spring devices are held parallel and connected with the end eyes d of a coupling rod 0 placed parallel to the cross bar a of the buckle A.
In Fig. 13 two spring links E are combined with the metal mountings applied to bottles or receptacles B with the view of firmly fixing the stopper A in order to insure the tight closing of the mouth of the bottle. These spring links facilitate the release of the said stopper, avoiding a too great compression of the ring 0 made of india-rubber or other material.
The stopper A has running through it in the usual manner a wire 6 but the ends of this wire instead of hooking into the eyes of the link 9 are pivoted in the opposite holes h in the neck of the bottle. A spring link E of the type mentioned above is secured by one of its eyes 6 to the arm 0 which is flattened and perforated. The other link 6 of the spring device is attached to the wire that forms the link 9 opposite the link What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a spring link formed by two parallcl metal rods surrounded by a spiral spring, the combination of two juxtaposed rectilineal cylindrical rods each having throughout its length a fiat surface against which they bear and over which they slide one against the other; of a circular plate fixed eccentrically and invariably to one of theends of each of the said rods and having a notch extending from the flat surface of: the rod on which it is fixed up to the extreme edge of the said plate, the said notch having in section the form of the other rod which is intended toslide freel through it; of a hook formed at the end of said rod, opposite that furnished with a notched plate causing the rod to fold toward its flat surface so that the point of the hook comes opposite the 1,216,463 111 Ill:
