Y Chaser block 7 has adjacent one end a short slot 14 and the holder is also provided with a hole 15 in the bottom of the recess 12; with the result that when the boss 11 is fitted into the yrecess 1 2 and the block 7 placed in the trough shaped holder 6 between the sides 16 of the same, the one bolt 13 will be sufficient to secure Vthe block, the holder and the bracket or support 1 permanently together, as will be apparent from inspection of Fig. 1. The bolt 13 has ahead on its outer end provided with a kerf to enable it to be turned by a suitable tool and this head engages a seat surrounding the slot 14:; whereby the block 7 can be held in the holder and at the same time be capable of some degree of sliding movement for the purpose of adj ustment, as will presently appear. Y
The holder 7 is thickened at one end as shown at 17 and this end has a longitudinal screw lthreaded bore to receive an adjusting screw 18. I indicate by means of the numeral 19 the slots above mentioned in the rib 5, block 6 and holder 7; and these slots allowthe bolt 10, Ythe'rib 5, the holder 6 and the block 7l to have relative movement sidewise of the bolt. It will be apparent that byv turning up the screw 18, this screw'can be caused to' engage the rear end of block 7 and forceA the same forward; that is to say to the left in Fig. 1. In this way the chaser block 7 and the chaser 2 can be properly adjusted whenever the necessity for adjustment may arise. 1
The utility and mode of my invention will now be clear.. In order to assemble the chaser and other parts of my improvement j I first secure the holder 6 and'block 7 to the rib 5 by means of the screw 13, I next insert the bolt 10 through the slots'19 and cause the threaded end of the same to engage the foremost one of the series of threaded holes 20 provided in the Chaser 2 to receive it. This bolt has a collar thereon, which is of l greater diameter than the width of the slots 19,fand a polygonal head beyond the collar; so that when the bolt isturned causing the threads to screw in a hole 20, the collar will engage the rib 5 along the sides of the slot therein and draw the chaser into firm contact 'with the chaser blockand cause the teethY 8 and 9 to mesh with each other. Of course the chaser 2 is adjusted longitudinally-by hand before thetightening of the bolt 10 causes the teeth 8 and 9 to come together and if any finer adjustment is necessary, it is effected by means of the screw 18 as above outlined. When the Chaser 2 is adjusted by loosening the screw l0 and disengaging the teeth 8 and 9, the Chaser 2 must be moved a distance that can never be less than the pitch of the teeth 8 and 9; but when adjustment within finer limits is desired the screw 18 is relied upon and by means of it the chaser 2 can be moved inward toward the stock which is being worked for any distance however minute.
I wish to have it understood that the above description and drawings are illustrative only and I do not care to be limited to the' exact structural details set forth, but 100 Abelieve to be new I desire to secure and protect by Letters Patent of the United States:
1. A chaser having cutting teeth on one face and having a plurality of threaded holes longitudinally arranged on its opp() 11o site face.
2. A chaser having cutting teeth on one face, a plurality of transversely disposed teeth on its opposite face, said teeth comprising abrupt and inclined faces, and a longitudinal row of threaded bores on said opposite face.
3. The combination of a chaser having teeth along one side and an element associated therewith, said Chaser and said element having interchangeable and interengaging portions, said element being slidably mounted.
4. A chaser block having a pair of longitudinal slots and having transversely disposed teeth on one of its faces.
5. A trough shaped holder having an aperture and a longitudinally extending slot and carrying an adjusting screw adjacent one end. 13o
6. A support for a Chaser construction having a slotted projection thereon, said projection having a boss extending from one side thereof.
5 7. The combination of a projection With a boss extending therefrom, a holder having a recess receiving said boss, a Chaser block received by said holder, the projection, the holder and the block having coinciding slots,
10 said block having transverse teeth on one face, a Chaser having transverse teeth adapted to mesh With teeth on the block, and having one or more threadedl hores therein, a headed bolt passing through said slots to engage one of said bores in the Chaser, and 15 an adjusting screvvr carried by the holder to engage the block.
