Description

NoK 121,632. Patented Dec.5,1s71.
UNITED STATES ROBERT KENT, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN DEVICES FOR POINTING WIRE.
Specioaton forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,632, dated December 5, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT KENT, of Brooklyn, in the county ot' Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Devices for Reducing or Pointing Wire preparatory to drawing it, and other purposes of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 represents a front view of a device constructed in accordance with my improvement; and Fig. 2, a vertical section of the same at right angles to Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. l
My invention is mainly designed to be used as an attachment to the draw-bench in wire-drawing apparatus dr devices; and consists in a combina tion of peculiarly constructed die-rollers geared together, for pointing the wire or reducing it at its end to facilitate the entry of the wire within the draw-plates.
its circumterence, arranged to face or line with one another, and of a gradually-diminishin g depth and width from or near their one end toward theil opposite end.
To point or reduce the end of the wire, the wire is introduced within the grooves c the requisite distance to secure the pointing of it, and the level D worked so as to cause the grooved portions o1 the rollers to indent themselves within the wire, which is then drawn out from between the rollersy the lever l) being simultaneously held to hold the rollers at their set on the wire. This points the Wire so that it can be easily entered within o1 through the next smaller-sized hole in the drawplate 5 and, after the wire has been drawn, it is again introduced at its end under a closer oi smaller adjustment of the tapering' grooves in the` rollers within the latter by suitably turning them4 and the pointing process repeated as before, t( allow of the entry of the wire within the nextsized draw-plate of smaller gauge, and so on il succession for each draw of the wire, the roller: B B, by the construction of the grooves in them answering, by repeated adjustment, to ei't'eet the same series or succession ot' reduced pointing op erations as a sliding andlixed die provided witl a multiplicity of grooves ot' different dimensions What l claim, and desire to secure by Letter: Patent, is-
An adjustable wire-drawing machine, consist ing of the rollers B, having grooves c ot' gradu ally -diminishing depth and width, geared to gether and provided with a holding-bar. D, fot operation as herein described.
