To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT D. ELSTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at erjden, in the'county of New State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gasolene- W'ater Separators, of which the following is a specification. p
y invention relates to improvements in gasolene-water separators, and the my improvement is to produce a device suitable for use in the line of supply for internal combustion engines on automobiles, motor cycles, and 'motor boats using gasolene water from the gasoleneand find it convenient to incorpostrainer in most'cases, and applies in part to certain features divided out. from my application which issued. My improved gasolene-water separator consists of a structure in globular form com: posed of an upper member 10 and a lower member 11 that meet along a horizontal plane, held together by an axial screw 13.

Within the globular structure described is housed a piece 17 of straining or filtering material, which as shown is of wire gauze and is positioned adjacent the junction 12 of the upper and lower members 10 and 11.

The internal boss 19 connects by means of an axial hole or bore 25 in continuation of the hole 18 with the pet-cock 16 and is provided with a plurality of radial holes 26 which connect interior of the structure, and which are positloned at the lowest point possible so as to permit of drawing all the water therefrom' through the pet-cock 16 during the flushing operation.

The filtering or straining material consts of two layers, the upper 17 of wire gauze and the lower 17 of felt or fabric, and these are housed in. the upper member 10 and are fixedly maintained in position by a pair of spring positioning rings 17, one on the lip-- per side and one onthe lower side on d which are seated in grooves 17 in the side wall of the said upper member 10.

The guide tube 243 is made appreciably longer than the guide tube 2i and extends appreciably below the filtering; layers and the joint 12* and well into the body portion of the lower member 11 as showm suitably to serve as on effective guide for the screw '5 to direct the some to the screw threiided hole 18 in the boss 19 as well to guide the some past the said filtering layers 1'? end 17".
The pet-cock 16 made a separate piece from the lower member 11; the'upper portion thereof 19 is in the form of a neck, which is connected to the said lower m. bet" 11 by a screw threaded connection 19'; the'boss 19 on iu'nvard extension of the said neck 19", the screw threaded hole 18 in the 19 is a continuation of the bore 27 of the pet-cock l6; and the radial openings or passage ways 26" are 1')os.'1ioned in the lower portion the boss 19 so that the lower portion thereof is flush with the lower inner wall of the ower member ll.

It will be noted that the position of the junction 152 of the upper and lower membore 10 and 11 is relatively high, so that the lower member ll"- is appreciably deeper and longer than. the upper member 10 and that the position of the inlet connection 1i relatively elevated, or close to the junw tie-1o 1'72 and remote from, the bottom wall. and the purpose of this is that the lower member 11 may have capacity to serve us :1. reservoir to hold an appreciable quantity of wot i and without interfering with the low in proper manner oi? the relatively pure and unmixed gasolene or other liquid fuel.

The feature of permitting of adjustment oi the inlet and outlet at any angle relatively one to the other is u limrticulur convenience the joint connecting the two parts of the casing being such as to permit of setting those at any position desired.
