Description
CHARLES E. CANAN.
lm-provemenin Flour bolt vibrators.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIC'E.
CHARLES EDWIN CANAN, OF COLDWATER, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLOUR-BOLT VIBRATORS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES EDWIN GANAN, of Coldwater, in the county of Branch and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Flour-Bolt Vibrators; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of rei'- erence marked thereon and being a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a boltiug-reel and chest with my improvement attached. Fig. 2 is a cross section on the linem x, in Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective View of one of the vibrator-springs attached to the reel.
Like letters refer to like parts in all the igures.
The nature of this invention relates to the application of a series of springs to the reel of a Hour-bolt, for the purpose of causing each lon gitudinal rod of the reel, as it passes under an adjustable lever xed in the upper part of the chest to be vibrated, whereby the bolt is freed from beards of wheat or specks of bran adhering to the meshes thereof, and Which are caused to fall back into the reel and pass out with the bran and shorts. The invention consists in a lever, having an offset in its under surface, adjustably hinged across the upper part of the chest, and in. connection therewith a spring and stirrup on each reel-rod, arranged and operating as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing, A represents a bolting-ohest, and B, the reel, both ofthe ordinary construction. C is a lever in the form of a segment, hinged at its rear end to the upper part of the back wall of the chest 5 the front half, or part toward which the reel revolves, is cut away on theyunder side,
commencing at a point over the reel-shaft to form ajog or offset, a; to the front end is attached a metallic strap, c', pendent through to the inclined bottom of the chest, where it is perforated to engage with a stud, b, on the chest, as shown. l) is a leaf-spring, secured to each of the longitud inal rods of the reel, its outer end playing within and contined by a stirrup, E, secured to each rod, which allows it to be compressed as it passes under the rear part ofthe lever C, and arrests it as it ilies out when it passes by the oiiset, the sudden arrest ofthe outward movement of the spring by the stirrup jars or vibrates the rod, and frees the bolt from the adhering beards of wheat and specks of bran, which fall down into and pass out with the bran and shorts.
The force of the impact of the springs upon the stirrups is regulated by moving the outer end of the lever up or down, and confining it by liooking the strap C 011 its stud at the proper point.
This improvement is applicable to all kinds of rotary-bolts and screens other than flour-bolts, while every prac-tical miller will concede the necessity of some device which will free the bolts from adhering impurities.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of the springs D and stirrups E on a bolting-reel, with relation to the lever C, provided with the offset a and strap C', adjusta` bly hinged to the bolting-chest, as and for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES EDI/VIN CANAN.
