A car bolster comprising an integral rolled steel compression member formed of an inverted channel shape having channel sides and a tension member consisting of a rolled. section depressed intermediate its ends to fish belly shape and havinglateral out-turned flanges adapted to be' riveted to the out-turned flanges of the compression member, whereby the junction lines of. said members will be at or-near the neutral line of compression and tension strains. j
