PRESSURE-REGULATOR.

Be it known that I, CARL J. VELEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kalamazoo, Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pressure-Regulators, ot' which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in pressure regulators.
The main objects or' my invention are:
First, to provide an improved pressure regulator or control device adapted to control a prime mover, such as a. motor, by means of a switch or the like.
Second, to provide an improved pressure control device which is adapted to act to stop a motor when the pressure reaches one predetermined point and to act to start a motor when the pressure falls to another predetermined point.
Third, to provide an improved pressure regulator which is comparatively simple in structure and one which is not likely to get out of repair in use and may be accurately adjusted to operate at desired pressures.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specilication. The invention is clearly delined and pointed out Vin the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment ci my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specilication7 in which Figure I is a detail view, partially in vertical section, of a structure embodying the features of my invention.

On this reduced end is a collar 13 having a slot lll. at one side in which the inner end of.' the actuated lever l5 is disposed. The lever l5 is pivoted at 1G on the upwardly projecting pivot ears 17 on the top section of the diaphragm casing.
Washers 1S are disposed above and below the collar, the lower washer constituting a stop coacting with the diaphragm casing to limit the downward movement of the actuating rod 7.
An inner spring supporting member 19 is threaded upon the inner' end of the actuating rod for adjustment thereon. An outer supporting member' Q0 is provided with a central hole so that the actuating member reciprocates therethrough. The outer support member 2O is supported in a fixed relation by the rods 2l which are carried by the top section of the diaphragm chamber. These rods are arranged through the inner support member lf) supporting it against rotation so that when the actuating rod is rotated the support member 19 is adjusted thereon. The outer end ot the rod is iiattened at 522 to receive a wrench ilior convenience .in adjusting' the inner member.
A coiled spring 23 is arranged between these support members preferably to embrace the rods 2l. The outer end of the spring being supported by the rods it acts against the pressure on the diaphragm and its tension is, as explained7 regulated by the turning of the rod.
A second spring 2li is arranged on the actuating rod with its inner end resting upon the outer support member 20, its outer end engaging' the adjusting nut Q5 threaded upon the actuating rod. This spring tends to counteract the spring 23 and act with the pressure on the downward movement thereof as the pressure falls7 thus securing ff Gil a variation between the high and low pres-- sure actuations governed by the tension of the spring 2li.
in the structure illustrated the actuated member l5 is connected through the arm 2G to the oscillating switch 27 shown conventionally in the switch box QS. The details et 'he switch are not shown as they i'orm no part of my present invention.
l have illustrated and described my improvements in the form in which l have embodied the same in practice. have not attempted to illustrate or describe certain modifications which l contemplate or adaptations ol? my improved pressure regulator to devices other than electric witches, as l believe the disclosrue made will enable the embodiment and adaptation of my improvements as uses and conditions may require.
llaving thus described my invention, what l claim. as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is:
l. in a structure ci the class described, the combination of a diaphragm casing, a diaphragm in said casing, an actuating rod hat ing a reduced inn Drend, its outer end being adaptedfto receive a wrench, a diaphragm engaging shoe for said actuating rod provided with a stem arranged to reciprocate in an opening in said casing and having a longitudinal bore receiving the reduced en d of said actuating rod, a collar on the reduced end of said actuating rod having a slot at one side thereof, washers above and below the collar, the lower washer being adapted to coact as a stop with said casing, an actuated member pivotally mounted on said asing with one end disposed in said slot in said collar between said washers, a pair of spring support members, the inner member being threaded upon said actuating` rod, said rod being` movable through the outer member, supportin g rods for the outer support mem,- ber mounted on said casing, said inner member being slidable on said supporting rods, a coiled spring arranged between said support members, a coiled spring ot less strcmgth than the spring arranged between said sup-- port members arranged on said actuating rod with its inner end resting upon the outer support member, and an adjusting member for said second spring threaded upon said actuating rod.

3. in a structure of the class described, the combination of a diaphragm easing, a diaphragm in said casing, an actuatinoi rod having a reduced inner end, its outer end being adapted to receive a wrench, a diaplnagm engaging shoe for said actuating rod provided with a stem arranged to reciprocate in an opening in said casing and having a longitudinal bore receiving the reduced end of said actuatino rod an actuated A member pivotally mounted on said casing and operatively connected to said actuating rod, a pair ot spring support members, the inner member being threaded upon said actuating rod, said rod being movable through the outer member, supporting rods for the outer support member mounted on said easing, said inner member being slidable on said supporting rods, a coiled spring ranged between said support members, said spring being arranged to embrace said supporting rods, a coiled spring of less strength than the spring arranged between said support members arranged on said actuating red with its inner end resting upon the outer support member, and an adjusting member ttor said second spring threaded upon said actuating rod.

In a structure of the class described, the combination of a. diaphragm casing, a diaphragm in said casing, an actuating rod having a reduced inner end, its outer end bcing adapted to receive a wrench, a diaphragm engaging shoe for said actuating rod provided with a stem arranged to reciprocate in an opening in said casing and having a longitudinal bore receiving the reduced end oi said actuating rod, an actuated member pivotally mounted on said casing and operatively connected to said actuating rod, a pair of' spring support members, the inner member being threaded upon said actuating rod, said rod being movable through the outer member, sujiiporting rods for the outer support member mounted on said casing, said inner member being slidable on said supporting rods, and a coiled spring arranged between said support members.

In a structure oit the class described, the combination of a diaphragm casing, a diaphragm in said casing, an actuating rod adapted to receive awrench at its outer end, its inner end being operatively associated with said diaphragm, a pair of spring support members, the inner member being threaded upon said actuating red, said rod being movable through the outer member, supporting rods for the outer support member mounted on said casing, said inner member being slidable on said supporting rods, whereby when said actuating rod is rotated said inner support is adjusted thereon, a coiled spring arranged between said support members, a coiled spring of less strength than the spring arranged between said snpport members, arranged on said actuating rod With its inner end supported by the outer support member, and an adjusting member for said second spring threaded upon said actuating rod.

In a structure of the class described, the combination of a diaphragm casing, a diaphragm in said casing, an actuating rod adapted to receive a wrench at its outer end, its inner end being operatively associated with said diaphragm, a pair of spring support members, the inner member being threaded upon said actuating rod, said rod being movable through the outer member, supporting rods for the outer support member mounted on said casing, said inner member being slidable on said supporting rods, whereby when said actuating rod is rotated said inner support is adjusted thereon, and a coiled spring arranged between said sup port members.

In a structure of the class described, the combination of a diaphragm casing, a diaphragm in said casing, an actuating rod operatively associated with said diaphragm, a pair of spring support members, the outer member being relatively fixed, the inner member being adjustable upon said actuating rod, said rod being movable through the outer member, a coiled spring arranged between said support members, a coiled spring of less strength than the spring arranged between said support members, arranged on said actuating rod with its inner end supported by the outer support member, and an adjusting member for said second spring threaded upon said actuating rod.
