IM PROVEMENT IN EYELETlNG-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,495, dated December 5, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADOLPH DELKESCAMP, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eyeleting -Machines; and the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a vertical right-side view of my improved machine. Fig. 2 shows a leftside view of the same. Fig. 3 is a top view, showing the hopper for the eyelets and its distributer open. Fig. 4 shows the concave side of I the semicircular supplying and feeding mechanism. Fig. 5 is a top viewof the anchor movement, showing the escapement for placing the eyelets automatically and singly in position on the die for setting. Fig. 6 shows a broken-oft section of the vertical plunger, pin, eyeletholder or escapement, and die.
My invention consists in the anchor movement or escapement attached to the lower end of the chute to present the eyelets singly to the die of the plunger and hold them back in readiness for operation 5 also, in the combination for automatic movement of the parts of the slotted link which connects the supplying and feeding mechanism with the lever that operates the plunger, the check-spring, and stops.
To enable others to make and use my improved eyeleting-machine I will describe it more in detail, referring to the drawing and to the letters marked thereon.
The frame or standard A is made of cast metal, of any desired size, form, or pattern, ornamental or otherwise, it having a base, B, for securing it firmly to a bench to be operated by foot-power. On the front edge of the base B is cast the hub or support for the die b, on which the material is placed to receive the eyelets cc 0. Directly above the die b is placed the point or spindle a, which is set in the vertical plunger 0, the lower end of which forms the upper die. The spindle a is made to slide in the plunger, and is provided with a helical spring, e, to hold it in position to take the eyelets from the nippers d and place it on the spindle of the lower die b, and is then forced up into the plunger 0, when it is brought down on the eyelet c to set it firmly in leather, canvas, or other suitable material. The automatic eyelet'receiver and conductor D is made of cast metal, in the form of a concave and convex semicircle, with a hole, f, central with the periphery of the segment 9, by which it hangs on the axle-arm caston the standard A centrally with the vertical plunger 0, there being a groove, h, turned and out under in the form of a dovetail in the edge of the periphery of the semicircle or segment 9, by which means the eyelets are distributed from the hopper E, which is secured on the top of the piece D in a proper position, and are conducted down the chute or groove h to the lower point, where theyare received by the escapement F and delivered, one at a time, onto the spindle a, which, by its downward movement, takes an eyelet, 0, out of the nippers d and sets it at the same time the remaining eyelets are held back in the groove by the pin r on the arm j of the anchor movement or escapement F. The vertical plunger 0 is operated by a fulcrumlever, G, pivoted to the top of the frame A, and connected with the top of the plunger by stirrups 7c. The automatic eyelet-supplying and discharging mechanism is operated by a link-bar, H, connect-ing it with the lever-handle G, by the motion and jar of which the eyelets in the hopper E are distributed and conveyed down the chute h to their point of delivery. The semicircular piece D is provided with lugs or stops m and n on the concave side to act 011 a pin, 0, in the standard A, which determines its motion; also, with faint depressions in the side 1) p, and afriction-spring, q, to hold it steady at the stopping points. 011 the upper arm of the frame or standard A is placed a vertical pin, 1, to act as a stop upon the lever G to prevent the plunger 0 from going too far and crushing the die-punches.
What I claim is- 1. The anchor movement or escapement, constructed and operating as described, and attached to the lower end of the semicircular conductor to deliver the eyelets singly and place them properly on the spindle and die for setting, as herein set forth.
