To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, PAUL J. MARKS, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Photographic Shutters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and to the reference-numerals marked thereon.
My present invention relates to photography and more particularly to photographic shutters and it has for its object to provide a pivoted blade shutter of the set type which will be strong and durable and simple in construction and operation.
The improvements are directed in part to the means whereby the blades are actuated by the driving or master member and the time mechanism which temporarily halts the driving member with the blades in open position for a time or bulb exposure. convenient and novel means is also provided for adjusting these time stops.
To these and other ends the invention resides in certain improvements and combinations of parts all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claims at the end of the specification.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of a shutter constructed in accordance with and illustrating one embodiment of my invention, the cover plate being re moved to reveal the interior mechanism and the parts being in their normal position with the blades closed; Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the parts in set position Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view of the same nature showing the releasing lever after it has been operated but before its return; Fig. 4 is a view corresponding to Fig. 3 with the releasing lever returned and the shutter held open; Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view showing the blade actuating parts in a position co'rresponding to that of Fig. 1 but with parts of the time mechanism removed; Fig. 6 is a similar view with the parts ositioned to correspond with Fig. 2; Figs. and 8 show the positions of certain parts when the shutter is in the condition shown in Fi 3 and 4, respectively; Fig. 9 is a detai section taken substantially on the line 9-9 of Fig. 5; Fig. '10 is a detail section taken substan- Speoiflcation of Letters Patent.

the use of the strong spring on the driving' member of the instantaneous mechanism for effecting the time exposures as well, although it is usually considered necessary to provide a separate lighter spring for the time mechanism.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates a circular casin having a partition plate 2 and a centra exposure aperture 3 normally closed by the blades 4.
As best shown in Figs. 1, 9 and 10, the
blades turn on pivots 5 fixed in the shutter casing and are provided with actuating pins 6, 7 8 and 9 which are secured'in the usual blade actuating ring 10 slidable 'in a depressed portion 11 in the rear or bottom wall of the-casing so that all of the blades are opened and closed together.
Fixed to the partition 2, preferably at the top of the casing, is a stud 12 on which turns a disk 13 having a hub 14. The disk is provided with a shoulder 15, a cam face 16 and has secured against the top face thereof by a screw 17 a semi-annular spring latch 18 capable of being' deflected upwardly and furnished with a uide pin 19. The inner end of a flat spirfi or clock sprin 20 (Fig. 11) the outer end of which is fixed to the partition or casing at 21, is secured to a drum 22 surrounding the hub 14 and having a flange 22 or circular plate overlying the disk 13. The plate 22 is locked to the disk 13 to turn therewith by reason of an aperture 23 therein that engages over the head of the screw 17 and thus the hub 14 and drum 22 are locked together. They are turned against the tension of the spring 20. by a setting lever 24 which locks against flat faces 25 on the end of the is held in .place by a cap screw 26,

In a photographic shutter, the combination with shutter blades and an actuating pin therefor, of a driving member provided with a spring latch adapted to ride .0 over the actuating pin when, the driving member is moved in one direction and to displace the pin and actuate the blades when the driving member is moved in the other direction.

3. In a photographic shutter, the combination with shutter blades and an actuating pin therefor, of a driving element or master member arranged to operate the pin,

In a photographic shutter, the combination with a partition plate having a slot therein and shutter blades adjacent thereto, of an actuating pin for the shutter blades projecting through the slot in the plate and a driving element or master member arranged to operate the pin, the latter being adapted to abut against the end of the slot and serve as a stop for finally arresting the driving movement of the element.
5. 9. In a photographic shutter, the combination with a driving element or master member, and a pair of time stops, of an intermediate member arranged to take the impact of the driving element and to be itself arrested by the time stops, and a releasing lever acting as a detent for the driving member and provided with an arm controlling the time stops to arrange them alternately in the path of the intermediate member upon successive operations of the releasing lever.
10. In a photographic shutter, the combination with a driving element or master member an intermediate member arranged to take the impact of the driving element and a pair of spring actuated time stops both of which are normally in the path of the intermediate member, of a releasing lever acting as a detent for the driving member and provided with an arm cooperating with the time stops to move one of them out of the path of the intermediate member when the releasinlever is operated to free the driving member and to so move the other one when the releasing lever returns.v
11. In a photographic shutter, the combination with a circular shutter casing, a driving or master member, an intermediate member arranged to take the impact of the driving member and. two time stops arranged to alternately engage and arrest the intermediate member, of a controlling ring mounted to revolve on the periphery of the casing and adapted to engage one of the time stops to hold it in inoperative position,
