Apparatus, of whichthe following is a specification;
The present invention relates to drill sharpening apparatus, and more particularly to that type employing expansive motive fluid under pressure, such as air.
One of the primary objects is to provide exceedingly simple, practicable apparatus of a novel character,

In the embodiment disclosed, a base 7 is employed which is hollow to provide an air chamber 8. On this base is located an anvil which is a head block 10 movable toward and from the same. These members are provided with the usual dies 11 and 12 for clamping the work in a manner well understood and they may also be provided with shaping dies 13 and 14.

As already ckplained, theexhaust from the cylinder 17 passes into the chamber 8 in the hollow base 7. and a portion is allowed to escape through an opening 64: formed in the rear side Of said base. A portion of this exhaust also escapes through an upstanding nozzle (35 mounted upon the base and directing the discharge against the clamping and shaping, dies 11 and 12.
Briefly described, the operation of the struetun; is as follows: If the handle 53 is turned in one direction sufficiently, the valve t7 is lowered to permit the port 4 to be in con'nmmication with the exhaust port 45. (.onsequently, the air uiider the pistons 30 will raise the same. thereby elevating the piston ill and the head block 10. This upward movement is cushioned, however, by

From the foregoing, it is thought that the (.OllStI'llCtiOIl, operation and many advantapes of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape. proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departint, from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a drill sharpener, the combination with a base having an anvil, of a movable head coacting with the anvil, a power cylinder supported above the anvil and head, a power piston ope 'ating in the cylinder and connected to the head, a return piston of smaller area than the power piston and located therebeneath, means for supplying motive fluid to the machine and conveying a portion to the power piston and a por-- tion to the' return piston and maintaining the same against the latten means for controlling the fluid supplied to the power piston and exhausting it therefrom, and a fluid operated shaping hammer and dolly mounted on the base.
2. in a drill sharpener, the combination with a base having an anvil, ot' a movable.
head roactiag with the anvil, a fixed head supported above the movable head and havinc an upper large piston chamber and a plurality oi lower and smaller piston chainbers communicating therewith, a power piston operating in the large piston chamber, return pistons in the smaller chamber. operatinq against the power piston, means for supplying motive [laid to the machine and conveying: a portion to the power piston chamber and a portion to the smaller piston chamber and maintaining the same in the latter, m ans for controlling the fluid supplied to the power piston chamber and exhausting it therefrom, and a. fluid operated shaping hammer and dolly mounted on the base.
3. In a drill shar]')ener, the combination with a base ha ving an anvil, of spaced guide rods fixed to the base and projecting above the anvil. a head block located between and slidable on the guide rods, a cylinder fixed to the guide rods above the head block, a, piston in the cylinder having; a depending ronnection with the. head block and located between the spaced guide rods, and a fluid operated shaping! hammer and dolly coacting with the anvil and h ad block.

In a drill sharpener, the combination with a base having an anvil, of spaced upstanding guide rods fixed upon the base, a head block slidablvniounted on the guide rods, a cylinder located above the guide rods and head block and having a depending neck and outstanding the latter being mounted upon the guide rode, a piston operating in the cylinder and having piston rod slidahle' in the neck and connected to the head block, and a fluid operated shaping hammer and dolly coacting with the anvil and head block.
(3. In a drill sharpener, the comlanation with work clamping,- means. of work shapingr means coactingr therewith, a motor for the clamping means. a motor for the work shaping means. motive fluid supply means connected to the motors. valves respectively controlling the supply means, 2111(. an oscillatory actuating device having a crank conncction with one valve. and a detachable connection with the other tor successively actuating said 'alves.

a valve controlling both the supply and exhaust of said motor. work shaping means coacting with the clamping means, a motor therefor. means for supplying motive fluid to the last named motor. a valve controlling said supply only to the last named motor. a common actuating device, means moved by the actuating device for operating the first mentioned valve to alternately permit the motive iiuid to he supplied to the motor of the work-clamydngg means and be exhausted 'Lln-rei'rom. and means also moved by the actuating device to permit motive fluid to he supplied to the motor of the work shaping means only when motive fluid is supplied to the motor oi the work clamping means.
